not force-user'ing while printing?
Hi all,... ...currently I am trying to get the following setup up and working here: * capisuite (www.capisuite.de) works as an isdn/capi-based fax solution for the LAN. * cups is used as printer spooler, there is some "glue" package to access capisuite through cups, thus generating a "print-to-fax" solution. * since the clients in the LAN still are all Windows NT 4,

no USB/HID UPS found?
Hello world; been using nut atop Debian GNU/Linux (sid) for about two years by now, my configuration broke as I upgraded the machine this morning (headin' for kernel 2.6 to have full support for the new GBE NIC included). I read through the UPGRADE.gz instructions provided with the Debian packages and tried to fix things according to the instructions pointed out there, but things still just

syncing file dates between windows nt4 and samba 3.0
Hi all,... ... currently I am trying to get hold of a strange error which is successfully keeping me from sleeping the last week. Basically, I am running a DebianGNU/Linux based machine with samba 3.0.0 as a backup server for an amount of Windows NT4 workstations. There is an old backup "framework" around here, basically a collection of .bat files on the workstations which at

NT4 domain: users not found
Hi all; ... trying to get a samba setup running atop debian gnu/linux, I am stuck in a strange situation: I set up the samba box to be part of a Windows NT 4 domain, did a net join (which obviously worked, at least a computer account on the PDC was created) and configured the machine to see the domain user accounts (wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g are working, same as there are domain users listed while

winbind, nsswitch, AD and group membership caching?

winbind, nsswitch, AD and group membership caching?
Folks; using samba+winbindd+pam+nsswitch to make several Linux servers authenticate against an AD domain, I do have my setup mostly working now: - AD users are able to ssh into the machine. - wbinfo -g / -u does list all domain users. - getent group / getent passwd does list Unix and AD users. However, after changing some users group memberships in AD, I didn't manage to propagate this

Default mail folders.
Just want to make sure before I set this up. I read that the autocreate plugin is deprecated and to use "Mailbox settings" as listed here http://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailboxSettings. If that is correct then do I just add those mailbox blocks in /etc/dovecot/conf.d/10-mail.conf? Lastly, will "sent items" auto populate with sent items or is there something else that needs to

Using capture.output within a function
Dear R-users I'm running a maximum likelihood procedure using the spg package. I'd like to save some output produced in each iteration to a file, but if I put the capture.output() within the function I get the following message; Error in spg(par = startval, fn = loglik, gr = NULL, method = 3, lower = lo, : Failure in initial function evaluation!Error in -fn(par, ...) : invalid argument

v1.1 QUOTA and inbox quota
My mail agent is postfix and by default it imposes the INBOX size of 50 meg. I would like my imap mail clients (I'm using Thunderbird) to "see" this and warn me when my inbox fills up. I tried doing it with the old quota system but wasn't successful. With the new quota rule system it looks like per-mailbox quotas are possible, however when I do this: quota = maildir

Best Practises => Keep Pool Below 80%?
In the ZFS Best Practises Guide here: http://www.solarisinternals.com/wiki/index.php/ZFS_Best_Practices_Guide It says: ``Currently, pool performance can degrade when a pool is very full and file systems are updated frequently, such as on a busy mail server. Under these circumstances, keep pool space under 80% utilization to maintain pool performance.''''

Pictures of the Digium booth at ISPCon 2005
Hello everyone, Even though a lot of it was a bit last minute, several of us from the commnunity made it to Baltimore to help Digium with their booth at ISPCon. It was a great time. Gregory Boehnlein, Brian Capouch, Christian Savinovich, Kristian Kielhofner (me), and John Todd (not pictured) were there (as well as others), and some pictures were taken (the up close ones of me were very
