Apache2.2 + Mongrel: what do you think about these perfs?
Hi all,
I''ve been spending quite a lot of time trying to install a decent RoR
server on my dedicated server (Ubuntu 6.06 LTS), and now, everything
works.
However, the performances are not really what I had expected... I would
like to know what you think about it.
Here is my config: 2GHz VIA proc, 1Gb RAM, SATA-II HD.
I have apt-got ruby 1.8.4, mysql5 and installed rails 1.1.4 by

help a journalist: What do you wish the CIO understood about fighting spam?
Hi, folks. I'm senior online editor at CIO.com, and I'm working on an
article for which I'd very much like your help.
There's often a lack of communication between techies and top company
management. Maybe they don't want to hear about problems; perhaps you
give them technical details that are far more granular than they want
to know. But dealing with spam is a topic

As a general rule, I think R should make upgrading as easy and seamless
as possible. Upgrading strategies seem

Upgrading R using the "global library folder" strategy - what do you think about it?
Hello dear R-help mailing list,
The other day I published a blog post (with some R code) to help R-users who
want to implement a simpler upgrading strategy for R (under windows - but
probably the same will be true of mac OS, I am not sure about Linux).
This e-mail has 3 goals: (a) To share, (b) to get feedback, and (c) to
propose to implement this strategy to R's core.

Voice Prompts, what do you think? Good voice. Should we record a new prompt-set?
Hello all,
I have someone working for me who has a nice phone voice. I looked at
some available prompts for asterisk, and found both the free and
commercial ones to be pretty horrible. The asterisk ones are good, but
I wish I had more to choose from sometimes.
My question is, what do you think, should I bother having her record a
full spectrum of prompts for asterisk?
If you want to hear her

what do you think about write.table(... qmethod = "excel")?
Last week one of our clients reported trouble with a csv file I
generated with write.table. He said that columns with quotes for
character variables were rejected by their data importer, which was
revised to match the way Microsoft Excel uses quotation marks in
character variables. I explained to them that quoted character
variables are virtuous and wise, of course, but they say Microsoft

What do you think about commercial applications for Rails?
Hello all,
I''m a RoR fan. I''ve read some RoR books, and I''m starting to use RoR for
commercial proyects.
As I use RoR more and more, I think about inexistent tools that would be
great to have when developing applications in RoR. For example: an IDE
with more features than RadRails. So then I think "hey! you could
produce one of these tools".
Some of these

Dell unofficial community repository - what do you think?
Hi all.
I am currently gathering information about firmware update on Dell
PowerEdge machines.
I've found
http://linux.dell.com/wiki/index.php/Firmware-tools_announcement
and
https://linux.dell.com/repo/community/
It is an unofficial, community supported repository.
What are your experiences: should I perform firmware updates the
traditional way by downloading *.bin packages from Dell and

IAX with dynamic echo cancellation - what do you think?
I've been curious how IAX has been working for users running without a
jitterbuffer and no echo cancellation. In my particular installation, IAX2
traffic remains within a pretty high bandwith WAN ( - but busy as it is
linking buildings in a school district). It seems that at most times, things
could run quite nicely in this mode.
The ability to dynamically disable echo cancellation when end

What do you think of mergemaster -i option ?
Yeah, I don't have luck with mergemaster, may be after another 100 times
I run it I will educate myself to properly use it.
So, would '-i' option help me to automate the process?

What do you think about this motherboard?
Hello all..... I would like to know if anyone here has had good
experience with this Supermicro
motherboard.....http://supermicro.com/products/motherboard/P4/E7221/P8SCT.cfm
I am thinking about using it in an entry level mail and file server
with a 3ware card and 200 GB SATA drives. Cost is a factor here
otherwise I would go for an Opteron board instead.
