No proxy. Just sendmail with users using emacs/Rmail or
Webmail/Squirrelmail.

real_rip variable addition for dovecot 2.1.10
Timo,
Please check the code. I didn't add it, but a real_lip might be useful
for some people as well. Also, I notice that pop3-proxy is doing a
different xsession than the imap proxy. Is there an xsession standard
that is different between the two, or just an oversight in the code?
Both send the remote address/port, but only imap proxy sends the local
address/port.

login_trusted_networks from webmail ?
I'd like to get the IP-address of the webmail-klient logged in my
maillog (for being compliant with coming data retention policies). I've
noticed that with login_trusted_networks pointing at my dovecot
directors, we get rip=client-ip logged on the backends. How is the proxy
providing this to the dovecot backends? Anybody know what magic we need
to implement in our webmail-solution to be

dovecot-proxy with managesieve, director and backend dovecot imap
hi all,
I've been tasked to add sieve/managesieve to an existing dovecot cluster
running 2.1.7 on debian wheezy which is made up of 2 dovecot-proxy hosts
as directors and some back end dovecot imap hosts all running the same
version.
My problem is that I thought to put the service on the director/proxy
hosts since they wouldn't have too much load on it, but when I do I get

Benchmarking: Dovecot vs Courier. Courier wins as POP3 server
Hi All,
I have compared Dovecot performance to Courier and it appears that as a POP3 server Dovecot is slower in 2 times but as an IMAP server it is faster in 1.5 times. The same node (16CPUs), testing time is 30 min, please see results and dovecot configs attached.
Benchmark software is MStone used by Sendmail Inc so is is quite reliable.
I do not see anything else to tweak in Dovecot to

doveadm commands returning 139 at director servers
Hello,
I have configured director in front of dovecot imap/pop/lmtp servers.
When I need to manipulate a user mailbox, I use doveadm commands at
director server's, with -S option. But some commands return exit code
139 when command returns more than 40 entries (I think).
For example, the command:
sudo doveadm fetch -u amateo hdr mailbox Trash HEADER Subject "nyctalus11/"

Dovecot-Director, (Manage)-Sieve und Remote-IP
Hello,
I`ve got a question about Dovecot-Director and (Manage)-Sieve: is there
any possibility to pass-through the original IP-address to the backend
server?
In this case I try to pass-through the IP-address of a webmail server.
I`ve looked for a solution in different forums and tried it with the
parameter "login_trusted_networks", however no success.
The above solution is working

outlook will not sync
Dovecot users list,
I started having problems with Outlook not syncing with Dovecot a public
imap folder upon issuing a send/receive in the client; eventually
Outlook timed out, and I received the following error in the Dovecot log.

Btrfs RAID-10 performance
Here's a few tips:
1. I assume that's a 2U format -24 bays.?You only have 1 raid card
for all 24 disks ? Granted you only have 16, but usually you should
assign 1 card per 8 drives. In our standard 2U chassis we have 3 hba's
per 8 drives. Your backplane should support that.
2. Add more drives
3. Get a pci nvme ssd card and move the indexes/control/sieve files
there.?

I have not tried it at all. Was just an suggestion. You can try
something like
protocol lda {
namespace archive {
...
}
}

inbox issue
I have dovecot 2.0.11 installed on a CentOS 5.7 email server. Two of the
server email clients, one using Outlook and the other Thunderbird, have
had all the contents of their inbox disappear only to reappear at a
later time. One client's inbox email reappeared upon receiving a test
email (to check if it would show up in the inbox) from another user. Has
anyone heard of such a thing?

Suggestion: Split login_trusted_networks
Hi,
It seems the use of login_trusted_networks is overloaded.
Example:
* It's used for indicating which hosts you trust to provide XCLIENT
remote IP's.
* It's used for indicating from which hosts you trust logins enough to
disable auth penalty. (like in a webmail)
However... trustwise, this is trusting two different entities.
The first case you put trust in the host.

Very high load
Hi,
I am using dovecot 2.0.9 (official CentOS rpm), I am experiencing very high load issue.
I think it is something related to my storage (/var/spool is about 3 TB and it is almost full).
I noticed those kind of messages in /var/log/maillog:
Warning: Maildir: Scanning /var/spool/pop/domains/domain.it/username/Maildir/cur took 100 seconds (14281 readdir()s, 0 rename()s to cur/)

Remove authentication penalty for webmailer
Hi all,
I want to remove the authentication penalty for specific ip addresses
(subnets if possible).
I am using Dovecot 2.3.2 (582970113) and figured that this information:
https://wiki2.dovecot.org/Authentication/Penalty
> If the IP is in login_trusted_networks (e.g. webmail), skip any
authentication penalties
is not up to date.

problems with SSH-based clustering dovecot 2.1.1
Hello,
I'm using dovecot 2.1.1 with vpopmail 5.4.30 with multiples domains and I
have problems setting up synchronization in between multiple computers.
All act like master (my clients can connect to any of the them and read
their emails either via POP3 either via IMAP, inbound email gets on any of
the machines). Each machine is on a different continent, there is no
shared drive in between
