That depends on the IMAP session, read the mailbox size and index size,
etc.
Some are significantly larger:

Message size incorrect?
Hi there,
I recently installed a plugin for SquirelMail (php imap client,
squirrelmail.org) which adds up message sizes per folder to display a nice
total size of each subscribed folder. After consulting the plugin
maintainers at SquirrelMail in this thread:
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.mail.squirrelmail.plugins/12468/focus=12468
There is quite a discrepancy in the rfc822.size reported by

Are you saying that Dovecot needs 2MB of physical memory per IMAP session?
If I want to support a max 100,000 IMAP sessions per server, I should configure the server to have at least 200GBs of SWAP?

Corrupt Message?
Dear List,
Am accessing dovecot imap through squirrelmail.
Squirrelmail paginates the message list into pages.
All works fine except for the page one particular email is in. When I
try to open that page (or in fact click 'show all') the server returns:
ERROR: Bad or malformed request.

I'm sure about tax and death, not much else.
But as a rule of thumb I'd avoid swapping out stuff on production servers,
