Correct me if I?m wrong, but I thought Dovecot handled client authentication, and once authenticated handed off to postfix?

Yes, dovecot handles the authentication, but the connection is
handled by postfix. We already know the authentication work since
you can receive mail, so the problem is either postfix or the client.
At any rate, this isn't a dovecot problem.

Password issue
One of my accounts was having login failures when trying to send mail, but was able to check mail.
I tried everything I could think of to see what the issue might be, but eventually went in and reset the password in the sql database (I knew the password, so I reset it to the same password).
{SHA256-CRYPT}$5$VuS?
{SHA256-CRYPT}$5$VI7?
So the password was updated properly.

Assistance with doveadm backup...
Ok, so for lack of any other information, am I to conclude that the doveadm backup command is broken in 2.0.9? I have been through the wiki for it back and forth and cannot make it work.
Yes, I need to upgrade, there is no question, but I won?t do that without a maildir backup. I would prefer to use the built-in dovecot mechanisms for that than something else.

Dovecot deliver
Hi all,
I have a problem with my dovecot/postfix configuration:
here is my dovecot -n

Warning: fd limit 128 is lower than what Dovecot can use under full
load (more than 768). Either grow the limit or change

Struggling to get dovecot working with postfix auth
Hi,
I am trying to create an authenticated relay server using Postfix and Dovecot.
However I am having two problems :
(a) If I create a dovecot config entry as follows :
unix_listener /var/spool/postfix-authrelay/private/dovecot-auth {
group = postfix
mode = 0666
user = postfix
}
Dovecot is unable to create the socket ? I thought surely if dovecot is started as root it should

Urgent - Help needed
I am using pop3/imap, see the below file. We can't verify any logs? This is
working fine from last one year. as part of testing we just stopped the
services for 20minutes and restarted the dovecot and postfix server using
"service <dovecot/postfix> stop/start". No issues so far...
I would like know, if the application is reading the emails from the
server, do we have any log

Namespace, prefix questions
We've got some users who are using Outlook Express version 6. The client
allows me to specify the root folder, but not a prefix or namespace. I'm
still struggling with some users on our new server that have crazy imap
folder layouts, so I've got a few questions.
When I specify the root folder, does that bypass any namespace/prefix
definitions on the imap server?
On some clients,

Yes, I have tried these exact same settings, with the exception that we DO have a certificate so we don?t have to confirm certificate.

Clamping down on mailbox sizes...
I don?t want to do this for all users?.but?
I have a few users who insist that they use their mailboxes regularly and don?t want it cancelled. Fine. But they won?t clean them out either.
What steps would you all recommend for setting quotas on some users but not others?
Specifically starting out with identifying WHICH accounts have excessive amounts of crap in them, by age, then sending them
