My dovecot works fine against Active Directory 2003, but not against AD2008
Hi Matthias,
thank you very much! that fixed the problem.
I had workaround the problem by using "base = ou=xxxx, dc=dom", instead
of "base = dc=dom" in the dovecot-ldap.conf.ext file, because that also
worked (I don't know why, but the problem happen if you use as base just
the domain, but not if you add a second level). But that forced to me to
use several userdb/passdb

My dovecot works fine against Active Directory 2003, but not against AD2008
Fran and/or Matthias,
Could you publish your doveconf -n? I can't get dovecot to authenticate with my
AD. Maybe you have a solution I could try.
What mail client(s) are you using? I assume by "AD 2003/8" You mean SBS2003/8
and are therefore using Outlook?

Samba 3.0.21b winbind crash
I'm using Samba 3.0.21b on SuSE 9.3 Pro (x86) with the binary RPMs from samba.org/suse.com (3.0.21b-1.1.2-SUSE-SL9.3) on a Domain Member Server in ADS mode with winbind against W2K3 SP1 AD servers and idmap uids/gids stored in a central OpenLDAP directory.
Unfortunately, winbind gives me a hard time and reproducibly dies with a PANIC on a "wbinfo -g", although I think I've

wbinfo -r returns only 16 groups (sometimes)
Something we noticed after upgrading from 3.0.14a to 3.0.20 and still a
problem with 3.0.23c on Solaris 9 Sparc. Windows 2003 server running
Active Directory. The examples below are all with 3.0.23c downloaded
last week and compiled from source using gcc 3.3.something. 3.0.14a
works perfectly using the same smb.conf.
We use Samba to do proxy authentication for squid using ntlm_auth and

php script to migrate other attributes after running classicupgrade
Hi,
I have written a php script to upgrade a fresh s4 AD with more details
from a (s3) ldap server. I am no programmer AT ALL, so I guess this is
very dirty and un-elegant, but it does the trick.
We had multiple "mail" attributes in openldap, and since AD only allows
1 mail attribute, additional mail addresses are migrated to
"otherMailbox" AD attributes.
Perhaps someone

Dovecot deliver with AD LDAP userdb
Good Afternoon,
I have my virtual users stored in an Active Directory database. As far
as mail info goes the 2 important fields are: mail (their primary
email address) and otherMailbox (a multivalue attribute containing
their mail aliases). Right now all email addresses belong in the same
domain and there are no immediate plans to change this.
If I use Postfix to do the lookups and delivery only

3.0.21c winbind crash
I'm using Samba 3.0.21c on SuSE 9.3 Pro (x86) with the binary RPMs from
samba.org/suse.com (3.0.21c-2.1.2) on a Domain Member Server in ADS mode
with winbind against W2K3 SP1 AD servers and idmap uids/gids stored in a

After running successfully for some time, it now refuses to start after
a reboot. The domain-specific winbindd instances are even crashing. :-(

My dovecot works fine against Active Directory 2003, but not against AD2008
Hello,
my dovecot installation has been working fine against AD till we upgrade
from AD 2003 to AD 2008. As http://wiki2.dovecot.org/AuthDatabase/LDAP
said, now I'm not able to connect AD through 389 port. The port 3268
works fine though.

I figured it out, there certainly is something different! The
AuthDatabase/LDAP documentation on the Dovecot Wiki says "When
connecting to AD, use port 3268". Port 3268 is used for Global Catalog
searching. By default the Active

samba4 adding an index to sam.ldb
I have a large installation >20k users. We're using samba4 for AD Authentication, and also email address validation. I'm trying to edit the @INDEXLIST in sam.ldb to add an index on otherMailbox to speed up searches (0.05 sec for indexed, vs 2.5 sec for non-indexed searches) I'm finding that when I use ldbedit to do this, it appears to add the additional @IDXATTR. However, when I

[Samba 4.5] Very slow LDAP Queries (almost unusable), performance tunning ?
No, you have to do that manualy, or look the the samba4 ADS script for kopano ( or zarafa )
But I mostly follow the documentation.
And when i run :
time ldbsearch -H /var/lib/samba/private/sam.ldb -s base -b @INDEXLIST
....
real 0m0.230s
user 0m0.184s
sys 0m0.044s
so if yours take more that 20 sec there is something very wrong.
I suggest check you samba AD database and

dns lookups for SRV kerberos
Hi,
I have raised this question on the kerberos mailing list, but have been told that Samba has it's own behavior regarding SRV lookups.
My configuration uses the following :
dns_lookup_realm = false
dns_lookup_kdc = false
[realms]
EXAMPLE.DOM = {
kdc = 10.0.0.1:88
kdc = 10.0.0.2:88
admin_server = 10.0.0.1:749
default_domain = example.dom
}
but I still see the DNS lookups for

[Samba 4.5] Very slow LDAP Queries (almost unusable), performance tunning ?
Zarafa is not on the same server as Samba
We only have 2 AD/DC Samba 4.5 (CentOS 7) and we put required indexes on LDAP .
Arround 1000 mailboxes but not all are simultaneously in use (approx 1/3 in use).
MTA is postfix (and is still connected to Samba AD, this one is not causing the issue).
As a workarround, we currently deployed a synchronization connector from AD to OpenLDAP. It solves the
