New log entries with 2.0.19?
I just upgraded my Ubuntu server from 11.10 to 12.04.1 and that upgraded
Dovecot to 2.0.19. For some reason I'm getting a lot more (5 times)
disconnect in IDLE and inactivity time outs. I'm using only IMAP with
two users. Both users access the server from multiple devices, phone,
tablet and desktop computer. I had previously set the
max_userip_connections to 20 and rarely got the

dovecot logout issues
hi
we are using dovecot version 2.2.7 (config file given below)

the issue is that SQUIRRELMAIL webmail users suddenly lose connection while they are working on the webmail.

disable_plaintext_auth = no as no effect on IMAP/POP3 logins
Hello
In my installation the disable_plaintext_auth does not appear to take
effect.
I can see that the value is correct using doveconf -a but it doesn't
change anything.
Whenever attempting to log in using IMAP I get this:
* BAD [ALERT] Plaintext authentication not allowed without SSL/TLS, but
your client did it anyway. If anyone was listening, the password was
exposed.

Timeout during imapsync
Hi,
I'm using Imapsync to sync messages from an Exchange 2003 server to a
Dovecot 1.1.11 server. The problem is that users' mailboxes are huge,
several gigabytes with tens of thousands of messages. First Imapsync
connects to Exchange and then to Dovecot, and then starts to get Inbox
info from Exchange. By the time it gets this info, the connection to
Dovecot has timed out. I realize the

Dovecot 2.0.9: Thunderbird 3.1.9: Very slow while open sent folder with many (4k>) mails
hi,
one customer told us, that he has performance problem in his Thunderbird
3.1.9, while open his sent folder, which has round about 4000 mails in
it, and 20k in his Inbox. For example TB, tries to sync the sent-folder
list (over SSL) from the sent folder for now over 15min.
In the log, I can't see any strange things, so for me, Dovecot works ok.
Maybe, I should use better cache options?

Initial status notification not received
Hello,
We have SLES-11 SP2 Xen VMs running dovecot as IMAP proxies. At VMs
startup, dovecot almost always shows these errors:

Nov 16 14:29:55 server dovecot: master: Error: service(anvil): Initial status notification not received in 30 seconds, killing the process

I've thought about doing this someday (adding snapshots to a user's
namespace) but never got around to doing it. Snapshots get rotated
(e.g. hourly.1 -> hourly.2 -> etc.)

Problems with upgrade 2.0.16 -> 2.1.3
I ran into two issues trying to upgrade our dovecot installation (Solaris 10).
1) Does not compile with OpenSSL 0.9.7
Not a big deal, as I was able to successfully against OpenSSL 0.9.8,
but does dovecot require OpenSSL >= 0.9.8 now?

OK, IMAP STARTTLS is working in some sense. (Your MTA handles
SMTP, not dovecot.)

timeout after inactivity on mount.cifs
Hi,
I'm trying to backup a directory on a Windows 2008 (fully updated)
I'm running Debian testing.
(kernel version: 4.9.6-3, mount.cifs version: 6.6)
I'm basically mounting a share with mount -t cifs and tar the content of
a directory.
I didn't have problems with old debian (probably sqeeze).
Now I occasionally get in dmesg:
cifs vfs: error -32 sending data on socket to

timeout after inactivity on mount.cifs
Hi Ivan,
Not sure if you have found a solution or not since your post was back in
February, but I thought I'd reply as this is the only thread I could
find anywhere that mentions a problem that I was having on a recent
installation of Arch Linux.
A few minutes after boot all of my CIFS/Samba mounts would go offline
and I'd get an error "The host is down." But I could unmount

[PATCH] v2v: -o rhv-upload: Set inactivity timeout (RHBZ#1586198).
This increases the inactivity timeout for transfers from the default
(60 seconds) to 1 hour, so that we should never hit it for ordinary
transfers.
Note this requires oVirt >= 4.3.0 although the same change was
backported to the 4.2 branch in later releases. The corresponding
oVirt fix was in https://bugzilla.redhat.com/1563278
I also replaced the deprecated ‘image’ parameter with ‘disk’.

IMAP IDLE
Hi,
2.2.33.2
Well your confs are almost mine except for
director_ping_idle_timeout = 30 secs
submission_relay_max_idle_time = 29 mins
but i think they're not imap related (i may be wrong)
any other hint why is this happening?
I was used to the old IMAP server than dovecot, where emails appear in the
inbox, no matter if it was selected for 15m or the last 4 hours
Any ideia please let me

limiting number of login attempts from same ip
Hello,
is it possible to limit the number of pop3 (or imap) login attempts
from one IP with dovecot to stop attackers? We recently had an attack
from one IP-address lasting 50 minutes that tried 50000 pop3-logins
with guessed users and passwords. I know about Fail2Ban but really
would prefer an easy to configure solution inside of dovecot. Dovecot
has this anvil daemon, can it be used
