Maildir permissions on creation?
Yes, and it is not my use case, sadly. ACLs are meant for imap, not filesystem access and mail_access_groups is also useless for some reason. It just does not change anything. Probably because I don't use mail_location and variables when I provide path for home. (It's stored as is in a database on mailbox creation.) 26.12.2014, 12:07, "Tobi" <tobster at brain-force.ch>:

Maildir permissions on creation?
The main reason is that I don't want to provide backup user with unnecessary write permissions within maildirs and mail user within backup logs dir. I was talking about mail_user:mail_group 0750 on dirs and 0640 on files. (Or, possibly, mail_user:backup_group 2750 and 2640.) 26.12.2014, 11:19, "Tobi" <tobster at brain-force.ch>: > Whats the reason you do not want to use

. (dot) in maildir folder names
Hi. Uhm... yeah as the topic implies I want to have . (dots) in my folder names... Unfortunately dovecot's maildirmake hasn't a -f switch as the one from courier/maildrop, but that one in turn is buggy[0] and doesn't encode any characters at all. In principle, maildir++ should allow[1] having (encoded) dots in folder names,... but I don't quite understand how the encoding

Dovecot 2.2 maildir replication issue
Hello, I'm just trying to setup two mailservers with dovecot 2.2, postfix, mysql, postfixadmin where i would like to sync the maildirs between them; I'm at the point where sending/receiving and qouta is working and try the maildir replication but it only creates the maildir directories (as example: /srv/vmail/test.domain/screenie/) on the second server but nothing inside the maildir is

[BUG] Incorrect maildir quota value after maildirsize creation
I found a problem with maildir++ quota. When dovecot creates maildirsize file, it counts quota wrong. This is, how I reproduce a situation on version 1.2.0: First, I remove maildirsize file: # cd /var/mail/test # rm -f maildirsize # ls -la total 32 drwx--S--- 5 mbox mbox 4096 Jul 12 20:45 . drwxrwsr-x 3 root mbox 4096 Jul 12 20:39 .. drwx--S--- 2 mbox mbox 4096 Jul 9 20:45 cur -rw------- 1 mbox

Sharing nested folders / maildir variations?
Hey all, So I've got a shared namespace in dovecot where users can, via a custom control panel, share their folders into (which creates a symlink) in order to allow anyone on their domain to access it. I store mail in maildir. The issue is that when people share folders, they expect that when they make subfolders, those are automatically shared as they are contained within it.

New maildir default permissions
hi, i'm trying to configure dovecot to create maildir directories of new users with specific permissions. i'm ending with this dovecot: auth: Debug: sql(blabla,::1,<HJ/.>): query: SELECT data_user.username, data_user.password, 500 AS userdb_uid, 500 AS userdb_gid, 500 as mail_access_groups, 750 as mode, '/var/mail/' AS userdb_home, concat('maildir:/var/mail/',

Maildir parent directory permissions incorrect for new mailbox
Hi, My issue is with the automatic creation of parent directories above new maildirs. It seems to be that they're being set with incorrect (or unhelpful) permissions, applying the permissions of the mailbox down the path towards the mailbox root, as opposed to taking the permissions of the mailbox root up towards the mailbox. Our mail is stored under the scheme: location =

per mailbox maildir format
Hi all, Is it possible to set the maildir format at mailbox level? I'd like to us Maildir++ for most of my clients, but want to emulate the other one for one of my users. Can this be done with dovecot? Thanks Bgs

Shared mailboxes - Can't open mailbox shared-boxes/user/name.lastname: Character not allowed in mailbox name: '.'
Hi, I am trying to make shared folders work on my server (Ubuntu 18.04, Dovecot 1:2.2.33.2-1ubuntu4.1). Mails are on Maildir++ local filesystem with '.' as layout separator and ALL 100+ users logins fits a template name.lastname, with a dot in the middle. I set up listescape but no luck. When I test with doveadm: root at mail:/etc/dovecot/conf.d# doveadm acl debug -u marcio.merlone

Slightly OT : Maildir format (silly) questions
Hello, I was asking what was the motivation for not having the envelope From in the Maildir format, as defined in the qmail spec : "The message is delivered without an extra UUCP- style From_ line, without any >From quoting, and without an extra blank line at the end." which may sound silly since we lose an important piece of information. Same question about the motivation in

Migration from mbox/maildir++ to mdbox
Dear list, dovecot version: 2.1.7 I have an old mail server that uses mboxes for the INBOX and maildirs for subfolders. I want to migrate our mail handling to a new setup using mdboxes for everything. The current config looks like this: # 2.1.7: /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf doveconf: Warning: service anvil { client_limit=1000 } is lower than required under max. load (1127) # OS: Linux

deliver custom maildir creation
/ I'm testing a new setup of postfix using deliver to put the messages into the user's maildir, and am curious if there is a way to make deliver create custom maildirs when it delivers to a valid user without a maildir? Right now it only creates the inbox, I'd like it to create the .sent/ .Trash/ and .SPAM dirs. Is this possible? Thanks -------------------------------------- /

maildir maintenance?
Hi, I'm running version 1.2.15 (so no doveadm) with around 6000 maildir users, some of which are very large. For completeness, the details of the setup are as follows: - The maildirs are stored via NFS. - The indexes are on a volume local to the dovecot server. - Only one IMAP server currently. - A separate sendmail/procmail server delivers via NFS. I recently wrote the attached script

Maildirs on AWS EFS
Hello, AWS released one month ago a EFS system with administered life cycle, which means that files not accessed in the last 30 days are moved to a lower cost storage tier. Currently I hold my e-mail, delivered to Maildir++ folders by postfix and retrieved with Dovecot, in standard EBS volumes. This has the disadvantage that I need to allocate more than enough space to ensure that the volume

mail_location maildir:~/Maildir Invalid user settings[SOLVED]
Hallo list, I was having quite a hard time configuring dovecot on OpenBSD -current. The problem was default Maildir setting in 10-mail.conf, namely: mail_location maildir:~/Maildir was unable to locate user's home directory. As far as I can remember, it was the correct setting on OpenBSD-current a week or two ago. Once I figured out and changed it to mail_location

IMAP client dependence on dovecot mail storage fromat?
Hi, After setting up a maildir tree with :LAYOUT=fs and accessing it with KMail and Thunderbird, various mail client-specific problems appeared, but, as I didn't try with maildir++, I would like to confirm here: does that matter for an IMAP client much if I store mail on server as ":LAYOUT=fs" or maildir++? Can it see differences? I would like to think, that IMAP protocol
