Hitting wall at 2048 IMAP connections
We are gradually rolling out Dovecot (IMAP only, no POP3) to our customer base. We are replicating between a pair of CentOS 7 boxes. All has been working wonderfully. However, to be sure our rollout continues to go smoothly, we put together a simple benchmark client program to fire up X persistent IMAP connections (using hundreds of mailboxes) that login, list the folders, select the

concurrent IMAP connections (plus 2 easy questions)
I posted a few days back asking about configuration issues with a modestly large number of IMAP connections. Several people were kind enough to respond with various ideas. Armed with those ideas and Google, I was able to determine the underlying configuration issues with CentOS 7 and Dovecot 2.2.10. I did some further benchmarking to ensure that we could properly plan our server

Replication -- multiple users, three or more servers?
I'm running Dovecot 2.2.1 on an Ubuntu 12.04.2 server, with half a dozen accounts for various family members. I want to set up replication involving at least three Ubuntu servers, with different users replicated on different sets of servers. For example, I might have mail for "user1" replicated on "server1", "server2", and "server3"... while mail for

Reappearing emails
The dovecot version (2.2.10) we were running had a timing window problem in the context of replication (we use maildir on CentOS 7). After doing elaborate tests to isolate the problem, we wound up upgrading to 2.2.23. That fixed it, and that version has been very reliable. >> Recently we received a report from an Android IMAP user that emails that >> he deleted without reading

Reappearing emails
We have been running Dovecot 2.2.10 with a pair of CentOS 7 boxes with replications for the past year. We have been quite happy with the performance and reliability. Recently we received a report from an Android IMAP user that emails that he deleted without reading would often reappear in his INBOX. At first I thought it might be some quirky incompatibility with his email client, but I

multi sync (>2 servers) + selective sync + trigger
Hi all, I've been researching ways to replicate mail across multiple mailstores and have a few questions. Synching 2 mailstores (M1 & M2) via dsync works fine. I want to add a 3rd and 4th (M3 & M4) server to also be synced. Multi-sync (>2 servers): 1) How do I tell M1 and/or M2 to also sync to M3 and/or M4? Selective sync: 2) How do I sync specific domains to specific

Hi ceph-ers, The email below was posted on the ceph mailinglist yesterday by Wido den Hollander. I guess this could be interesting for user here as well. more than two way replication
Is there anyway of replicating between more than one other instance of Dovecot. I have bidirectional replication working successfully and it seems to be reliable. I would like to replicate from one or more of these instances to one other. Is this possible? Dirk

Object storage
Timo, We are contemplating building an S3 compatible cluster of storage servers using Pithos <https://github.com/exoscale/pithos> and Cassandra to get multi data center redundancy and availability. Would it be possible to have multiple Dovecot servers in disparate geographical locations all talking to the same object storage, assuming it's consistent between sites? From what I

Dovecot replication and userdb "noreplicate".
Hello! I finally took the time and spent two days to set up replication for my server and now I have a question or two. I initially set noreplicate userdb field to 1 for all but a test user, but I could still see in the logs that all mailboxes were trying to connect to the other server via SSH. Is that normal? Replication with virtual users and static userdb possible ?
Is it possible to get replication working in a virtual user setup that uses a static userdb ? My environment is fairly simple and typical - there's a single system user (vmail) that owns all the home dirs (/var/mail/domain.com/user). The virtual users (userid at domain.com:secretpassword) are kept in a single file (/var/mail/domain.com/PASSWD) that's unique per domain, and referenced as a

sieve folders in maildir with imap: not a directory not fixed with maildir_stat_dirs = yes
As my logs fill up with "imap(user at domain.com): Error: stat(/mail/doman.com/user//.dovecot.sieve/tmp) failed: Not a directory" errors, I followed the advice at https://wiki2.dovecot.org/VirtualUsers/Home and https://dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2016-June/104403.html and set in /usr/local/etc/dovecot/conf.d/10-mail.conf # By default LIST command returns all entries in maildir beginning

Replication fails with dsync-server(admin@asergis.com): Error: Couldn't create lock /home/admin/.dovecot-sync.lock: No such file or directory
Hello I have configured replication using dsync. It fails with a message Error: Couldn't create lock /home/admin/.dovecot-sync.lock: No such file or directory This directory predictably does not exist - all my users are supposed to be virtual.? I can not find an option to switch this off. At the same time if I try manual replication I get segfault error Mar 30 17:17:24

replication howto
Hello, excuse me but there is some documentation about replication now? I dont' understand where i must put the lines below (dovecot.conf? , 20-imap?) Excuse but it's not so clear for me cause i'm a new dovecot user. Another question, i use virtual users on mysql backend , so for replication i need to give ssh at every virtual users? Or i can use a only use a system ssh user?
