Placement of attributes
In preparing data sets for the lme library, I bring the data into R,
convert it to the groupedData class, which is an extension of the
data.frame class, and use "dump" to create an R-readable version.
To cut down on the size of these files I convert the row.names
attribute from expressions like c("1", "2", ..., "54") to 1:54.

GeForce 8800GT fan control
I have a GeForce 8800GT that I am trying to lower the fan speed on.
I can change the fan RPM from high to not-as-high but I want more control over it.
It is too loud and it was quieter with the blob.
Maybe the temps are too high to make it quieter.

lm methods inconsistency?
I'm very new to R so maybe i'm doing something wrong so
please let me know it that is that case.
Here is an example where the summary() and residuals()
applied to lm object produce different results
(I think the residuals() results is correct since SAS produces
those numbers - the second residual corresponding to observation
with weight 4 is wrong in summary()).

Fragmented DWARF
Great, thanks! Those results are about roughly what I was expecting. I
assume "compilation time" is actually just the link time?
I find it particularly interesting that the DWARFLinker rewriting solution
produces the same size improvement in .debug_line as the fragmented DWARF
approach. That suggests that in that case, fragmented DWARF output is
probably about as optimal as it can get.

configure problems with fortran underscore
Just after R-0.63.0 came out I reported a problem to the list. I was
unable to get ./configure to complete it's job, because it couldn't find a
working fortran. It stopped after trying to test for underscore in
subroutine names. This was especially perplexing, since I could still
configure the older version (I had 62.2) with no error messages.
I tried suggestions of B.D. Ripley and

R-beta: Re-installing libraries in a new version.
Dear R-helpers,
I just upgraded from version 62.1 to 62.2 and now am faced with the
same problem I've run into before when upgrading:
Is there an easy way to take the libraries I have been using in the
older version and pull then into the new version. My organization looks
like this on Solaris 2.5.2:
/opt -- /R
-- /R-0.62.1

Bad Units Bug in barplot with pictex output device. (PR#220)
Dear Bug Team:
I encountered a bug when trying to make a barplot with the pictex
output device.
The following commands demonstrate the bug:

> errors <- c(3.08, 35.38, 33.85, 20.00, 7.69)
> errors

Nonlinear regression aborting due to error
Colleagues,
I am fitting an Emax model using nls. The code is:
START <- list(EMAX=INITEMAX, EFFECT=INITEFFECT, C50=INITC50)

#FORMULA <- as.formula(YVAR ~ EMAX - EFFECT * XVAR^GAMMA / (XVAR^GAMMA + C50^GAMMA)) ## alternate version of formula
FORMULA <- as.formula(YVAR ~ EMAX - EFFECT / (1 + (C50/XVAR)^GAMMA))
