Audio Output Timer Utility
We have several CentOS 6.x systems that are incorporated into
suites of special test equipment.? One of the requirements for
these systems is that they be kept up to date and they are kept
up to date using yum once per week or more frequently, as needed.
All of our CentOS 6.x systems have at least 2TB system disks and
were installed with essentially everything that was available on

Firefox addons disabled - temporary fix
The currently available fix for Firefox doesn't work with ESR, but there's a temporary fix that works. At least, it's working for me:
Go to about:config and set xpinstall.signatures.required to false.
The Firefox folks say that a fix for ESR will be coming at some point, but at least this gets things working again in the short term.
It's not clear to me if the fixed ESR (when

How to encourage maintainers to update their software
How do I best encourage maintainers to update the software they are responsible for in various repositories?
Akema Yagi made sure kmod-jfs for CentOS 7 was updated amazingly fast which is greatly appreciated. On the other hand, I have requested updates of some other software packages and have heard absolutely nothing in months...

yum update security updates only
Frank,
Interesting thank you I didn't realize that. It used to be supported I
believe, and there is a lot of out of date 3rd party documentation floating
around google that suggests it does.
Well it's just that many enterprises have policies which state that only
security updates should be installed, which I suspect is exactly why that
feature is no longer supported..

Evolution: always a 90-second delay
I'm trying to use Evolution on the latest CentOS 7.
Whenever I try to receive or send mail, there's always a 90-second
delay before the connection works. Since the delay is always exactly
90 seconds, I think I may be waiting for something to time out.
Perhaps this is a clue. My address is user at example.com. I have to log
in to pop.example.com or imap.example.com as user, not as

How can I disable at-spi-bus-launcher
I have a laptop that hangs up on shutdown saying that at-spi-bus-launcher is still running.
Since I have no use for at-spi-bus-launcher anyway, I would like to get rid of it, but attempting to remove the at-spi2-core rpm wants to remove 99% of my desktop as well.
The only way that I can see to get rid of it is to make /usr/libexec/at-spi-bus-launcher non-executable, but that's a pretty

one-shot yum command to match rpms between systems?
Given a list of rpms on one system (rpm -qa > list.txt), is there a one-shot command that I can run on another system to remove all of the rpms not listed and add any that are on the list and not present on the second system?

Comparing directories recursively
What is the best tool to compare file hashes in two different drives/directories such as after copying a large number of files from one drive to another? I used cp -au to copy directories, not rsync, since it is between local disks.
I found a mention of hashdeep on the 'net which means first running it against the first directory generating a file with checksums and then running it a second

copying files to fill flash drives
Back in the days of DOS I had a program that I obtained from somewhere called FILL.
FILL would take the name of a directory and then start writing files from that directory onto a series of floppy disks in such a way that each disk was made as full as possible, but without modifying the files that it was writing.
So you might end up with disk 1 having files A B and D on them since D fitted but C

ia32-libs for 64 bit CentOS
Hi,
I've been trying to install Zimbra Desktop 7 on CentOS 5.5 using the usual perl script provided. The issue is, I get a warning that my system does not have ia32 libs. I dug a bit on google and found out that 'there is no such package as ia32 libs for Centos'. I also tried all the suggested work arounds like glibc & stuff, can anyone shed more light on this?
Oh, the zimbra

CentOS 6.3 packages updates options without upgrading.
The specs may have certain dependency on subset of 6.3 packages, but not
for all other packages/binaries, as I mentioned earlier. So, to keep
things rather intact, we would simply meet requirements by only updating
"selected packages only". And, for now, that should be considered
intermittent solution until we can safely land to a proper job as you
mentioned. So, would there be any
