Firefox 78 under CentOS 6 -- no sound?
I did a yum update on my CentOS 6 laptop and it upgraded Firefox to 78, and FF stopped seeing my mic and speakers. Is there some magic I need to do? As a short term (?) fix, I downgraded back to Firefox 68. My system is otherwise up-to-date. -- Robert Heller -- Cell: 413-658-7953 GV: 978-633-5364 Deepwoods Software -- Custom Software Services http://www.deepsoft.com/ --

It isn't just 32-bit, but also 64-bit, and it isn't just Flash, but also HTML 5. To notice the bug, all you have to do

Firefox 78 under CentOS 6 -- no sound?
Akemi Yagi <amyagi at gmail.com> wrote: > This issue? > > https://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=17767 This is a huge bug! Using Firefox to watch videos is a basic activity. The bug with grub2 a few months ago was even more serious: it made systems unbootable. It's discomfiting to see two major bugs so close to each other. -- Yves Bellefeuille <yan at storm.ca>

python problem
Question for the list: I have a small, aircooled pc server, which is running fine, but the log gets filled with a series of messages saying the package, and each of 8 cpus is throttled because of thermal issues. Then, within the same second according to the timestamps, it reports everything is OK and throttling is off. This happens once every minute. In reality, when I try performance

mkfs.fat Device or resource busy
I'm trying to format a 16 GB SD card to FAT32. Either it won't find the device or it gives me the titular error message. mkfs.fat /dev/sdc I have tried "ejecting" the drive and reinserting the card. I have tried inserting another card, checking to insure that I could see its file, ejecting that card and inserting the target card. If I do not umount it, busy, if I don't, not

Best CentOS to install on *old* laptop?
I've found an old IBM OmniBook 800 and am curious whether I can get it going again. (Currently it boots either Windows 95 or some then-contemporary version of Slackware.) The CDROM is external (SCSI, I think) and the machine won't boot from it, so it'd require a boot floppy. Any suggestions? Or is CentOS entirely the wrong Linux to be thinking about for this?

Laptop and NFS homedir
In my professional environment, user's laptop have small (but fast ;-)) storage and a local home directory (centOS7). They use sshfs to reach a central storage for most of their needs. This central storage is secured (ceph replication + daily backup). It works also from home but, of course, with lower performances behind an ADSL box. No problem with closing connections. CentOS6: HELP! EFI boot fails after replacing disks...
OK, I wanted to replace the 500G disks in a Dell T20 server with new 2TB disks. The machine has 4 SATA ports, one used for the optical disk and three for the hard drives. It is set up with /dev/sda and /dev/sdb with each three partitions: 1 -- VFAT (for EFI) 2 -- ext4 (for /boot) 3 -- LVM /dev/sda2 and /dev/sdb2 are a mirror raid (/dev/md0) /dev/sda3 and /dev/sdb3 are a mirror raid

erasing a disk
Folks I've encountered situations where I want to reuse a hard-drive. I do not want to preserve anything on the drive, and I'm not concerned about 'securely erasing' old content. I just want to be able to define it as an Physical Volume (in a logical volume set), or make it a ZFS disk, or sometimes make it a simple EXT3, ExFAT or NTFS disk. However, old
