yum update / kernal update failed - remove or repair
I have a VPS running C7. I ran a 'yum update' which included a kernel update. The yum update wasn't a total success because mariadb updates failed. However everything else appeared to work. However, when I rebooted the server it did not restart. I have managed to get the ISP's support desk to boot the server by selecting the previous kernel, and I now have access to my box again.

Preparing for replication: dsync-local(testaccount): Panic: file mbox-lock.c
I am preparing a bit for setting up replication. However when I manually try to dsync an account, the first time I execute this[1] command it seems to be ok. The 2nd time I am getting this error[2]. If I add -1 (one way syncing) the error disappears. Does this mean I will have problems with setting up replication between these two servers? [1] [@ ~]# doveadm sync -n inbox -u testaccount

Help with external snapshots as backups
Hi, I have a win10 guest on a fedora32 system and have some questions as I explore using external snapshots as a form of backup in case of a Windows failure (as in, it won't boot or is completely irrecoverable) as well as revision control (to be able to rollback changes after a failed app install, etc). The first hit on Google for external snapshots involves a RHEL7 document that talks

I've dovecot --version 2.3.10.1 (a3d0e1171) openssl version OpenSSL 1.1.1g FIPS 21 Apr 2020 , atm on Fedora32. I configure /etc/pki/tls/openssl.cnf to set preferences for apps' usage, e.g. Postfix etc; Typically, here cat /etc/pki/tls/openssl.cnf openssl_conf = default_conf [default_conf] ssl_conf = ssl_sect [ssl_sect] system_default = system_default_sect

100% Dovecot MTA Replacement Setup
Working out upgrade of old 1.x + 2.x Dovecot installs to latest 2.3.2.1 out of Ubuntu Bionic repositories. _______ https://wiki.dovecot.org/Services suggests Dovecot can be used for full mail infrastructure, avoiding the complexity of exim4 or other MTA setup/management. Let me know if I understand this correctly. 1) https://wiki.dovecot.org/Submission can be used to listen on port 25 +

cvs bulid breaks on slackware
cvs code from this morning (about 9am PST) breaks on slackware 7.1 w/ gcc 2.95.2.1 with an undefined reference to session_setup_sia in session.o. this seems to be the culprit here: #ifdef HAVE_OSF_SIA #else /* HAVE_OSF_SIA */ session_setup_sia(pw->pw_name, ttyname); since i have no idea what that's trying to accomplish (and seems to be a bit backwards to me from looking
