Zip drive as a read-only medium
Does anyone have any experience using a zip drive as a read-only medium for storing things like tripwire files, PGP signed keys and kernels? Is there a way to switch it to read/write mode without ejecting it? Scott Kaplan SF Legal Net 346 Fair Oaks Street San Francisco, CA 94110 Voice: (415) 643-8700 Fax: (415) 643-8777

How can I stop the eject of the DVD after install?
I have created my own install DVD with a custom kickstart file and modified the isolinux.cfg file to allow the system to boot off of the hard disk as the default mode. It will also use my kickstart file if I select it. Now I would like to make the system not eject the DVD after reboot. The machines I am installing on do not have a motorized tray that can automatically pull the DVD back in when a

Hard(?) lock when reassociating ath with wpa_supplicant on RELENG_7
Hi Sam, do you know if there is anything done about cbb(4)? I have many wireless adapters with ath(4), but only the one based on PCMCIA is making problems on FreeBSD. I cannot boot my notebook with the device inserted into the port, or it will render the system unusable (100% load on cbb(4)). And all I can see is the following: Jul 12 14:58:39 link kernel: ath0: ath_chan_set: unable to reset

Mountpoints with auto mounter
Hi, I'm running dovecot on a OmniOS installation and I'm wondering what I can do about all those mount point warnings in my logfile. The problem occurs because of the running auto-mounter which manages my mail directories. Isn't it possible for dovecot just try to access the directories before logging an error message. Shall I remove the corresponding mount points from the list of

[PATCH] daemon: mkfs: Use -I option to force mkfs.fat to write a filesystem over a whole device (RHBZ#1039995).
From: "Richard W.M. Jones" <rjones@redhat.com> If you use virt-make-fs to create a partitionless FAT-formatted disk image then currently you will get an error: $ virt-make-fs --type=fat . /tmp/test.img 'mkfs' (create filesystem) operation failed. Instead of 'fat', try 'vfat' (long filenames) or 'msdos' (short filenames). mkfs: fat: /dev/sda:

lomount: handy for file-backed VBDs
Hey all, This utility (from Qemu) might be useful to anyone who has multiple partitions on a file-backed VBD and wants occasionally to mount them in dom0. http://www.dad-answers.com/qemu/utilities/QEMU-HD-Mounter/lomount/ You can tell it what partition to mount out of the file and it sorts out the offsets, etc. by parsing the partition table. This allows you to get around the loop

Wi-SIP vs. SIP-DECT
Anybody care to muse on Wi-SIP vs. SIP-DECT? My limited research indicates that none of the WiSip phones will ever be able to match the performance of DECT phones. Maybe I'm wrong but a Wi-SIP phone seems like a DIESEL sports car. There is nothing wrong with the technology, but it seems like a shoe-horned fit into the requirements of a wireless endpoint. DECT uses a wireless radio layer

cd doesn't eject
At the moment I'm installing world of warcraft, which has 5 disks and the expansion which has another 4 disks. Now it works nicely, until the installation program asks me for disk 2. On windows it ejects automatically, but here it doesn't. It doesn't even eject when i try using the konsole command ( wine eject ). If I do that, the program says ( Cannot open device for drive e: ).

Gracias, Juan --
