dbus/systemd failure on startup (CentOS 7.7)
We are seeing a problem that occurs ~5% of the time when rebooting
CentOS 7.7 where systemd gets a 'Connection timed out' to D-Bus just
after the D-Bus service starts - from 'journalctl -x' :

Centos User Privileges.
Hi list,
I've installed C 7.1.1503 and I've noticed that simple user can run from
bash shutdown -h now/reboot without getting special permission (sudo,
su). The machine is a VM without GUI (tested also on physical machine).
From reddit I've got a suggestion: removing/comment out "-session
optional pam_systemd.so" in /etc/pam.d/system-auth the problem is solved.

kvm: C8 as guest on C6 host / huge delay while booting
Since C8.1 kvm guests have a huge delay while booting on a kvm host
based on C6. This delay was not present with C8.0. The "pause" happend
direct after the grub step. The VNC session shows only a "_" character.
Any ideas what changes?

Nicolas,
Thank you!? But I am Dyslexic and very mono-linguistic; at least I could
read the actual commands, if not all the wonderful comments...

C6 and xfce
Hi, folks,
So I installed xfce on my Netbook. While I was in Chicago, I worked out
how to tell it to bring it up. It came up.
As root. With no obvious way to tell it to show a login screen first.
Did I miss something?

VNC question
We have run into the infamous black screen problem with tigervnc under CentOS7, which prompted me to look into how vnc is configured here.
https://access.redhat.com/solutions/966063
Am I reading this correctly - root needs to set up a systemd vnc service for every user and display individually? Compared to e.g. CentOS before 7, or indeed any other Linux/Unix system where vnc is completely under

Disable hybernate/suspend in CentOS 7
Dear Experts,
Could someone point me in the right direction: how can I disable
hybernate/suspend in CentOS 7?
I get workstations for graduate students with decent amount of RAM (32
GB), and for machines with large RAM I either do not have swap at all of
have some small (4 GB) swap. As I remember from older manuals, one has to
have at least twice amount of swap compared to physical RAM for
