CentOS 7, systemd,, and message floods
I've just updated a couple of servers, latest 7.3, and systemd is flooding dmesg, journalctl with info level messages... or maybe debug level 1. Examples: [ 478.258571] systemd[1]: Sent message type=signal sender=n/a destination=n/a object=/org/freedesktop/systemd1/unit/httpd_2eservice interface=org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties member=PropertiesChanged cookie=436 reply_cookie=0 error=n/a [

C8 Question
Hi list, I installed on my workstation C8.1 (1911) and performed a minimal install and then installed XFCE from EPEL. I noticed a strange behaviour (don't know if this is the wanted default). If I try ,from normal user shell, to run command like "reboot" or "shutdown -h now" system will reboot/shutdown. This happens on tty console, on xfce terminal and ssh session.

VM bootup got failed with systemd/dbus error messages
We are having one server machine (ubuntu 16.04 OS) with 10 VMs. When the server is rebooted, some VMs got failed to boot with systemd/dbus error messages. Rebooting the affected VMs resolves this issue. Jan 30 20:40:02 VM systemd[1]: Failed to subscribe to NameOwnerChanged signal for 'org.freedesktop.DisplayManager': Connection timed out Jan 30 20:40:02 VM systemd[1]: Failed to subscribe

[PATCH] p2v: Inhibit power saving during the conversion.
We do this by sending an Inhibit() message to logind and receiving a file descriptor back, which we hold open until the conversion completes (or fails). This is described here: https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/inhibit/ This adds an additional optional dependency on DBus since we use DBus to call the Inhibit() method. libguestfs error: need help troubleshooting
Hi, I'm trying to manually create a rhel7 image using the qemu-img and virt-install commands. I'm re-testing a procedure I previously wrote with the new grub commands that a customer suggested we add in. This procedure is available at: http://file.bne.redhat.com/dnavale/docs/review/RH-guides/AG-020715/#sect-create-images As in the procedure, I'm able to run all steps successfully

VNC question
We have run into the infamous black screen problem with tigervnc under CentOS7, which prompted me to look into how vnc is configured here. https://access.redhat.com/solutions/966063 Am I reading this correctly - root needs to set up a systemd vnc service for every user and display individually? Compared to e.g. CentOS before 7, or indeed any other Linux/Unix system where vnc is completely under

Centos User Privileges.
Hi list, I've installed C 7.1.1503 and I've noticed that simple user can run from bash shutdown -h now/reboot without getting special permission (sudo, su). The machine is a VM without GUI (tested also on physical machine). From reddit I've got a suggestion: removing/comment out "-session optional pam_systemd.so" in /etc/pam.d/system-auth the problem is solved. This is a

[fdo] Detect my own session being closed
The problem is that I don't want to have a system service, because I would also need a communication protocol, an arbitration algorithm... I think that there should be an API in logind that would allow a program to block the logout the same than it allows to block shutdown and reboot, and being notified of that. In fact, sometimes I receive a notification in Gnome Shell telling me that

[fdo] Detect my own session being closed
Hello: I created a backup program that uses an external HD to do the backups, and it is designed to allow several users to share the same hard disk by storing each backup in a different folder. To ensure that the backups are always made, it automatically mounts the backup hard disk when it detects it (using udisk2 DBus interface). The first problem is that if the backup program of the user A

Nouveau fails to initialize G94GL / Quadro-FX1800 on aarch64 board
Hi, I am trying to use a G94GL based card (Quadro FX1800) on an arm64/aarch64 based board. As the board is running linux-4.1.8, I had to apply the following patches to get the kernel module / drm working: https://lkml.org/lkml/2015/5/15/83 https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/dri-devel/2015-July/085449.html So far everything seems to work, the card modesets correctly, and the kernel log also
