About license at redistribution
Hi, at first I'm not part of the CentOS Project nor I'm a lawyer. But may I can answer your questions. According to the CentOS About page "CentOS Linux is no-cost and free to redistribute." [1]. So as you are planning to redistribute it should be fine to do. While redistributing you also need to consider the legal section [2]. However as you are planning a business you should

RFC: Improving license & patent issues in the LLVM community
I really really do not like armchair lawyer discussions and this is just flamebait if I've ever seen it... --------------- #1 Is the submarine patent risk really that bad? (What's driving this) #2 Pragmatically have "you" even considered how to execute on this relicense plan? a. What if one of the copyright holders doesn't agree? b. What audit procedure do you plan to use c.

libsmbclient licensing
Dear Samba team, We have developed cross-platform multiprotocol intranet file searcher and it includes the module (SMB scanner for *nix) which uses libsmbclient to enumerate all files on smb shares ("uses" means including headers and linking with library). Other modules also use some external libraries, but all other libraries have LGPL license. We prefer to publish our

question about use MP3s with LAME on Icecast
Hi. Is it possible (legally) to stream MP3s on Icecast that have been encoded with LAME encoder (http://lame.sourceforge.net/license.txt)? So if a composer writes a track, then saves in MP3 with LAME, and wants to distribute with Icecast server, is it legal? Must he get license for MP3 (http://mp3licensing.com/royalty/emd.html) and pay any royalties for MP3 DISTRIBUTING or STREAMING as it stated

non-infectious license for R package?
Dear All, thanks a lot for all the quick and helpful responses! I'm currently interested in the "stance" of this community towards closed source contributions. The way I understand it, currently my options are quite limited: I would most likely need to use a remote procedure call API, and build one side of the API as GPL. But this would make the coupling much slower and more

[LLVMdev] Question on License/GitHub
Hi all, We have downloaded and made modification to LLVM version 2.7 -- we added new files and modified some existing files. We would like to upload the entire source to GitHub (both our new/modified files as well as the rest of the LLVM files). What would be the best way (legal w.r.t to LLVM license, which is NCSA) to publish the entire source ? Can we simply distribute the entire source under

non-infectious license for R package?
Dear All, I've been following this mailing list for over three years now, but its just now that I have realized that R is licensed under GPL! :-) I'm not a lawyer and I don't want lawyer advice, but I'd like to get your feedback on a license question. My goal is to develop commercial software for image analysis of biomedical samples that may be used i.e. in academic institutions.

Commercial license?
Hi there Is there a commercial license for using Rsync or the Rsync algorithm within a commercial product? I appreciate that Rsync as it stands is GNU and therefore it cannot be used in this way, but I thought that I would ask the list. I understand that it is open source, but we have an application that would benefit from something like Rsync and therefore thought we would ask the question. If

R license for a derived data-only package
I'm looking for guidance or advice about the R license to use in preparing a package containing the Baseball Database from http://baseball1.com/statistics/ My main purpose is to make it available to students in a course, and to develop it with others I'd like to put it on R-Forge, and then perhaps make it public on CRAN. However, the page above bears a very restrictive copyright notice
