synthesizing yum transactions
Ok, I'm trying way too hard to shovel myself out of a hole. We have a bunch of remote CentOS 6 servers, that were configured with kickstart. They've subsequently had additional RPMs installed/updated via the 'rpm' utility. We have reason to occasionally rewind the state of the server back to it's original set of RPMs. Of late, we've found that 'yum' handles this

CentOS7 - Serial Console and Flow Control
Hello List, I'm ironing out details to upgrade a few systems to CentOS7. My servers have BMC with Serial over LAN support. In C5 and C6, I determined how to have BIOS/POST, kernel, and serial console access. I'm reading up on the method to accomplish the pieces with C7. Presently SoL output works, so I see BIOS/POST messages and the GRUB boot list. My changes to enable serial

Tested, and yes, this happens after a reboot, grub2 isn't giving the initrd a root disk to switch to. I had to edit the grub.cfg and add a single line, set

Centos 7, grub2-mkconfig, unsupported sector
Hi, folks, Well, I get back from vacation, and three CentOS 7 boxes didn't come up this morning (my manager and the other admin did the update & reboot). On these three - but *not* another one or two, and I don't think those others are Dells, they're supermicro's - the 327 kernel fell into the rdosshell, I guess. I finally got one the three up by going back to the 228.14

[PATCH v2] v2v: factor out bootloader handling
Create an object hierarchy to represent different bootloaders for Linux guests, moving the separate handling of grub1 and grub2 in different classes: this isolates the code for each type of bootloader together, instead of scattering it all around. This is mostly code refactoring, with no actual behaviour change. --- po/POTFILES-ml | 1 + v2v/Makefile.am | 2 + v2v/bootloaders.ml

Centos 7 - "Device eth1 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization".
Hi All :) I have three servers, all with centos 7 installed 3 days ago. I need on them "old" naming scheme (ethX) for network interfaces, because of that: # grep GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX /etc/sysconfig/grub GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="rd.lvm.lv=centos_node-XY/swap rd.lvm.lv=centos_node-XY/root rhgb quiet ipv6.disable=1 net.ifnames=0" net.ifnames=0 was added and afterwards I ran:

xen 4 and grub2 on debian squeeze
Hi! I''m experimenting with Xen 4 on Squeeze. Squeeze uses grub2 by default, and the config format has changed. I can''t for the life of me figure out where to set options for the hypervisor and the Dom0 kernel on bootup. It seems the grub2 stanza for xen is being generated by /etc/grub.d/20_linux_xen and that seems to have some provisions for receiving arguments, but I

[OSSTest PATCH 0/2] MegaRAID SAS support and RebootTimeExtra documentation
Hi Ian-s, Two small patches for OSSTest. The first one turns on compiling the Linux modules for MegaRAID SAS, needed for the ultralisk machine in the Cambridge lab. The second adds an entry in the README file about the RebootTimeExtra host property, which I also needed to use for ulttralisk, as scrubbing 368GB of RAM really takes a lot! git://xenbits.xen.org/people/dariof/osstest.git misc Let

[PATCH 0/4] virt-v2v: Convert RedHat.pm to Linux.pm
In preparation for an upcoming patch which adds support for SUSE guest conversions, it makes sense to have an intermediate steps that changes the RedHat.pm converter into a more generic Linux converter. The SUSE changes will then be limited in scope to only what is required for SUSE support. This series of patches accomplishes the following: - Renames RedHat.pm to Linux.pm - Modifies Linux.pm

truncating aggregation output only
Hello dtrace-discuss, Sometimes I want to run a script for some time and every n second output N top entries. trunc() isn''t suitable here as it also removed keys/values. I want it ''coz over time if I use sum() entries which are normally truncated can actually get to top over a time. Maybe printa() extension, something like: printa(@b[10]) - to output top 10? --

Name resolution not working inside virt-customize
Hi! I am trying to use virt-customize to add packages to an image. However it seems that there is a problem where a resolv.conf is not being installed and thus package installation fails. The command is: virt-customize -v -x -a trusty-server-cloudimg-amd64-disk1.img --run-command "host openstack.org" I am having a hard time gathering complete output as the command seems to

[PATCH 2/2] v2v: bootloaders: look for device.map also in /boot/grub (Grub2)
On Debian-based systems, Grub2 is in /boot/grub (as already known after commit 03b9f2b967c4c61a5acda6a3802317be109d213e), so make sure device.map is changed even in this situation. --- v2v/linux_bootloaders.ml | 1 + 1 file changed, 1 insertion(+) diff --git a/v2v/linux_bootloaders.ml b/v2v/linux_bootloaders.ml index 6582970..061d945 100644 --- a/v2v/linux_bootloaders.ml +++

hung SSH on Solaris when starting Oracle
Another instance of OpenSSH 2.9p1 hanging on exit. This occurs when connecting to a Solaris 8 box (both from other Solaris 8 hosts and from Linux hosts, all using OpenSSH 2.9p1). This problem doesn't appear to involve active background jobs; it is not fixed by either the bash fix listed in the FAQ or by zsh's "setopt HUP". I do not see the hang-on-exit behavior with the
