It really isn't a good solution without a lot of hand work. It can be
done but the person doing the updates needs to figure out all the
problems before hand and

I personally would never do an in place upgrade on a production machine.
Call it a personal bias.
The versions we have released do not work .. there are updates that need
to be refactored and rolled

local repo question
I have created a local repo for CentOS 6 x86_64.
I use a machine at 192.168.1.14 for that and created a directory structure
/var/www/html/centos/6.2/updates/x86_64
then there are these directories at the location.
Packages repodata
Both are populated with many files.
In my kickstart file I have a line:
#repo --name=Updates
--baseurl=http://192.168.1.14/centos/6.2/updates/x86_64/
All seems

It is supported, with some limitations, in rhel, so the same I think

RH9 to centos 5 386
I am testing the likelyhood of updating a couple RH9 systems to centos 5
386.
I found at document that talked about updating to centos 4. steps being:
1.) backup
2.)
rpm --import

rpm -Uvh --nodeps

kickstart driverdisk
Hi guys,
I have my driverdisk created and the files are on a USB pendrive.
How do I make the USB pendrive /dev/sdb and not /dev/sda???
I am wanting the installation to take place on sda and the driver disk
to be sdb?
My driver disk is a network driver disk, r8168.

Crazy thought about upgrading to new major release
I have older systems out there that work fine, just for what ever reason
would be great to upgrade from a C5 -> C7 (due to no longer supported) or
C6 > C7 (for updated packages).
Sounds like the upgrade tool is not quite an option...
I was thinking...
What would be wrong with any "easy" script that did the following:
1) Removed all packages with the --justdb option.
2) Import

Release 7 1503
Just updated to release 7 1503. CentOS team is awesome!
I thought I read sometime back that the release was going to
rebase to a newer gnome?
Did that not happen? Is there a way to get release 7 to a later gnome
version?
Thanks! Looking forward to playing.

upgrading AD DC and rejoin recommendation
Good morning/evening guys,
Great, i like what im reading.
This all is exactly why im saying, make a programs that handles these
upgrades independend from the samba version.
Almost all the code you guys need is already there. Having is this way is
really a major advantage.
It makes patching the samba-ad-db must better. To bad is, i cant code it for
you guys :-(

Upgrade to 8.2 from 7.8
So now that 8 is out - is it still "frowned" upon to do that in place

Is that not a good / valid solution ?

First, a bit of nomeclature clarification is in order. To me, and to
most in the RHEL-derived world, an 'update' means staying within

BUG?? - Samba 2.2.8a Number of Users in a Group Maxproblem (2.2.7a works, however)
Mr. Carter,
I just tried the most current CVS head and IT DOES NOT FIX the problem. Can you guys look into this? Like I stated earlier, 2.2.7a works perfectly but I need to upgrade samba for security fixes, etc..
Thanks.

Pretty straight forward... The first one works the second one does not.
Then if I switch them

repo dates and times
I am trying to get my kickstart "repo" line to function correctly.
repo --name=Updates --baseurl=http://192.168.1.14/centos/6.2/updates/x86_64/
When I comment the above line my install works, When I uncomment it the
install fails
with a message about dbus package error.
This is my nightly script that runs:

PLACE="mirror.team-cymru.org/CentOS"
mkdir -p
