Installation question?
After finally completing and trying to reboot, the machine goes into "Emergency Mode" and asks that I log in as root. That fails and the machine becomes completely unresponsive. I tried the minimum install and got the same result. Hard to diagnose an unresponsive machine. On Tue, Jul 30, 2019 at 4:54 PM isdtor <isdtor at gmail.com> wrote: > Pete Biggs writes: > > On

OT: workstation recommends: Thinkmate?
I'm looking to buy a new workstation, and it looks like Thinkmate makes what I need -- their vsx "virtually silent" variety. I hestitate because I wasn't happy with a laptop I bought a few years ago from a small outfit that sold Linux boxes exclusively. Does anyone have experience with Thinkmate, and in particular, the VSX line? If the later, is it really quiet. I run Centos

Install tunctl on CetnOS 7 ?
EPEL doesn't have uml_utilities and NUX doesn't have tunctl. as.POSIXct character string is not in a standard unambiguous format
Hi Ben Thanks for your answer I have already tried this, as well as x <- as.POSIXct(strptime("2002-02-02 02:02", "%Y-%m-%d %H:%M")) It works! But it does not fix it widely for all tests used during the "make check" step at compile time. Unless I patch all of them. There is something with localtime but I cannot find what. On another machine with another

Need to update gcc to version >=6 on CentOS 7 ?
I need to build u-boot on my CentOS 7 machine but encounter this: > *** Your GCC is older than 6.0 and is not supported I've updated the installation on my machine but the current version is: > gcc (GCC) 4.8.5 20150623 (Red Hat 4.8.5-36) How do I go about updating gcc to version 6 or greater on my CentOS 7 machine? And do so safely?

nouveau problem
When I attach an external monitor to my new Dell Precision I always get this and the monitor refuses to recognize video input. If I persist it reaches a point where the machine will boot but won't bring up a login prompt. I have to ssh to get in. And worst of all, it persisted after I remove the external monitor and am forced to re-install CentOS (7.6.1810). Aug 02 14:19:42

as.POSIXct character string is not in a standard unambiguous format
Hi I have lots of issues when I try to install R 3.3.3 during the "make check" step. Every time a call to as.POSIXct is done in test scripts, I got the same error message: e.g. x <- as.POSIXct("2002-02-02 02:02") Error in as.POSIXlt.character(x, tz, ...) : character string is not in a standard unambiguous format It looks to be linked to localtime but when I compiled

mysql vs postgres
I''ve used mysql for quite some time now. Other than crashing when the partition gets full, I''ve had no problems with it. But I''ve heard great things about postgres and have seen some people say it''s much superior to mysql. So, with a Rails application, is there any reason why I would want to learn/use another DB besides mysql? Any pragmatic benefits?

Changing dnsmasq DNS settings for virtual machines
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi everyone, maybe this is an old fart, but I cant get it to work. I am running libvirt on a laptop, where a dnsmasq is already running to delegate dns info for my local (not-public) network. My resolv.conf (on the host) lists the system-dnsmasq as first server. I had to set the listen-adress for the system-dnsmasq to 127.0.0.1 and set

Anyone running a business hosting plan @ textdrive?
I currently run a handfull of sites on a MediaTemple VPS - which is blazing fast and very cheap for what I get. BUT installing rails and mysql v4 was a major pain in my ass, along with other things. I''m considering switching to a Textdrive business hosting plan but wanted to get some feedback from list members first. I pay about $200 a month quarterly for my MediaTemple service.
