Using Dovecot-auth to return error code 450 (or other 4xx) to Postfix when user is on vacation
Hello to all members. I am using Dovecot for 5 years, but this is my first post here. I am aware of the various autoresponder scripts for vacation autoreplies (I am using Virtual Vacation 3.1 by Mischa Peters). I have an issue with auto-replies - it is vulnerable to spamming with forged email address. Forging can be prevented with several Postfix settings, which I did in the past - but was forced

Postfix restrictions
Hi, I'm currently fine-tuning my mail server (Postfix and Dovecot on CentOS 7). SPF, DKIM and DMARC work fine, now I'd like to limit the spam tsunami. Besides the official Postfix documentation, I've read a few articles about Postfix spam restrictions, namely these : https://www.linuxbabe.com/mail-server/block-email-spam-postfix https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/postfix_restrictions

postfix and spam, I am impressed
I have had the same email address since 1997 (when microsoft stole bob.com from me thanks to network solutions...) In the early days I of course was free with my email and used it everwhere. Fast forward to 2012, some 15 years later. woof..the amount of spam sent to me has always just kept getting worse and worse. On my centos 5 server I just used sendmail with spamassassin and it killed a

Postfix vs. Thunderbird on Mac OS
Hi, I'm running our local school's mail server on CentOS 7, Postfix and Dovecot. We get quite a lot of spam, so I have the following sender restrictions in my /etc/postfix/main.cf: --8<------------------------------------------------------ # Restrictions SMTP smtpd_helo_restrictions = reject_unknown_helo_hostname smtpd_sender_restrictions = reject_unknown_sender_domain,

blackmail attempt? Stable mailing list block?
I got some weird mail back, claiming that my e-mail was blocked, w/o indicating what server was blocked, after the mail appeared in the mailing list. Is this some BS shakedown? I use postfix on a DSL line forwarding to earthlink, this is hardly something that should be rare in the BSD world... the mail appeared to come from a web mail server and the first link has the following lovely text:

Q's about switching from sendmail to postfix
Running CentOS 4.2 with all updates. I've been using sendmail for my MTA since forever. I've grown used to it and I can make it do what I want it to. However (there's always a catch, isn't there)... Lately it seems that some mail is being lost. I've noticed some instances when a message was sent to myself and others which I will only see if someone replies back to

Apparent BIND problem doing RBL lookups for Postfix
My apologies if I'm posting the wrong place, or am asking a common question. All my looking so far hasn't turned up anything very useful in knowing what to look at, or what to modify. --- CentOS 5, running BIND 9.3.6 i386 Hardware: P4, 2.8Ghz, 1G memory Sata drives - non mirrored etc. Load is light, usually under 0.1 -- This box is running Postfix as our mail server. Applying a DNS RBL to deny authentication?
Hope to get some attention about this idea to reduce hacking passwords. Here is a list of about 700,000 IP addresses that are hacking passwords through SMTP AUTH http://ipadmin.junkemailfilter.com/auth-hack.txt This is a list of IP addresses that attempted to authenticate against my fake AUTH advertizing on servers with no authentication. sendmail and rbl blocking - generating statistics
I have enabled the feature in sendmail.mc to check with spamhaus for spammers. However since this block is being made at MTA level, I would like to know is something can be done to obtain statistics of blocked attemps. thanks -- ------------------------------------------------------------ Erick Perez Panama Sistemas Integradores de Telefonia IP y Soluciones Para Centros de Datos Panama,

Spamhaus with Zimbra Mail on CentOS
I realize this is slightly off topic, but I've noticed recently that I've been unable to preform RBL lookups using the the zen and sbl spamhaus RBL lists. Currently using Zimbra Collaboration Suite using CentOS 5 I'm seeing logs showing the following output. [root at phantom ~]# cat /var/log/zimbra.log | grep spamhaus Jul 18 13:07:12 phantom postfix/smtpd[27001]: warning:

RFE: dnsbl-support for dovecot
after having my own dnsbl feeded by a honeypot and even mod_security supports it for webservers i think dovecot sould support the same to prevent dictionary attacks from known bad hosts, in our case that blacklist is 100% trustable and blocks before SMTP-Auth while normal RBL's are after SASL i admit that i am not a C/C++-programmer, but i think doing the DNS request and in case it has a

Postfix - message queue filling with Host or name not found - try again
Hi list, I have noted over the last week or so my DNS servers are dumping lots of messages for bogus domain lookups. Examining the postfix queue with postqueue -p: I see many (Host or domain name not found. Name service error for name=bdgiedjhea.po6e4ina.com type=MX: Host not found, try again) Jake at bdgiedjhea.po6e4ina.com My question - why does this

spam control
Gents, I have added the following to /etc/mail/sendmail.mc and rebuilt it trying to control spam. I still get about 25 spam messages a day. Is there something else that can help control spam?
