Problems with x2go
I have installed x2goserver on a Centos8 server. Yesterday, after the installation I was able to connect by means of x2go. Today I get the following error ( /var/log/messages) /usr/bin/x2gostartagent[2677]: no free display number available, cannot start new session. Has anyone had the same problem? Thanks. Bye Stefano

Upgrade from Centos 7 to Centos 8
OK. I understand. Unfortunately the server has been assigned to me remotely and I cannot physically reinstall Centos 8. Thank you very much. X2go server on Centos7, any success?
Folks I have been unable to get X2go to work on a Centos 7 server. I have tried both the out-of-the-box GNOME desktop and the Xfce as well. In both cases, the view from the client is that the screen starts to appear, then goes away. On the server, I see the following messages in /var/log/messages (I have erased the user name and replaced it with XXX). The server is running as a virtual

x2go on CentOS6
Has anyone managed to get the x2go server working on CentOS 6.7? I started testing x2go from EPEL under 6.6, and it worked well. Then I didn't use it in 6 months plus, eventually upgraded the machine to 6.7, and it's no longer working. Both Windows and Linux clients error out with "Connection failed. 0: Event not found." A Linux client run with the debug option reports:

x2go (vs. freenx)?
Is anyone using x2go on Centos - and if so, is there any reason to think about switching from freenx? The old NX client for mac was a powerpc binary and is no longer supported under mountain lion - and their new alpha release crashed my mac after an OSX update so I'm curious if there is anything better around. (And I didn't like the way the new mac version changed the screen scaling

Upgrade from Centos 7 to Centos 8
I don't understand how I can upgrade my CentOS 7. cat /etc/redhat-release CentOS Linux release 7.7.1908 (Core) I followed the directions found on the web (by installing dnf and so on), but when I tried to install centos-release I get dnf upgrade -y http://mirror.centos.org/centos/8/BaseOS/x86_64/os/Packages/centos-release-8.1-1.1911.0.9.el8.x86_64.rpm Last metadata expiration check:

Remote Desktop Recommendations (2)
Folks I'm looking for a way to access a GUI desktop on a Centos 7 server from a Windows client. I have tried: - X2go from EPEL (fails immediately, apparently they are working on a solution, but...) - Freenx (doesn't exist for EL7) Both the above work fine with Centos 6. I'm looking for a solution that works over the internet from afar. My earlier posting failed to mention this.

CentOS version
I am trying to find out what version of CentOS is running at a customer site, but I do not have remote access and there is no one there to run anything for me. But I do have a dmesg output and I see this: Linux version 3.10.0-327.22.2.el7.x86_64 (builder at kbuilder.dev.centos.org) (gcc version 4.8.3 20140911 (Red Hat 4.8.3-9) (GCC) ) #1 SMP Thu Jun 23 17:05:11 UTC 2016 >From that can someone

Freenx/x2go on CentOS7?
Can anyone comment on the best remote GUI approach for C7 yet? X2goserver is in epel but when I tried it on the RHEL beta it only worked with a KDE desktop due to the 3d requirement of Gnome3. -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell at gmail.com

x2go on CentOS6

Thanks, Akemi, you have hit the nail on the head! The spurious error message was caused by a statement in .cshrc that created output, a stray unescaped exclamation mark in an alias definition. And that with me preaching to my

Gnome-3 - can't drag menu items out
I've mostly been using MATE from epel when I use GUI access on CentOS7 because it works with x2go, but just noticed on a system with Gnome3 that I can't drag items out of the menus to the desktop or top bar for easier access. Is there some way to make the desktop space useful for more than pretty wallpaper? -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell at gmail.com

Kerberos ticket maximum renewable lifetime
We are using tmux, screen and x2go to run long-running jobs on our compute servers. $HOME and other data should be mounted via CIFS or NFS4. Because such a job can run for more than a week, I would like to increase the Kerberos ticket lifetime or better the Kerberos ticket maximum renewable lifetime. I found this guide: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_KDC_Settings Unfortunately, only
