Weird problems with CentOS 7.6 1810 installer
Hi,
I just updated my installation media for CentOS. I have a few sandbox
PCs in my office, and I'm testing CentOS 7.6 1810 on them. There seem to
be a few issues with the CentOS 7.6 1810 DVD.
Checked DVD integrity on startup : OK.
First attempt : installer froze on root password dialog.
Second attempt : installer froze on dependency calculation.
Third attempt : installer froze on network

This is what I normally use.
My only use for VirtualBox is making screenshots of the installer, and
sometimes for a quick test, because it's easy to make a VM clone in a
single click.

CentOS 7.6 1810 vs. VirtualBox : bug with keyboard layout selection
Hi,
I'm currently working on my next Linux book, which will be an elementary
course about CentOS administration. I'm using VirtualBox for all the
installer screenshots.
Since CentOS has recently been upgraded to version 7.6, I thought I
might as well base all book references on this version. So I downloaded
the 7.6 1810 minimal ISO and started a fresh installation in VirtualBox.
I'm

Hardware RAID 10 server - reformat NTFS partition to ext3 and resize for Centos 5.5
Here's the situation. I have a dual boot machine - originally had Red
Hat and Windows 2000 Pro. The NTFS partition never did seem to 'get
along' with the Adaptec 2400A caching RAID controller. Linux always
seemed to like the I2O drivers. I went from RH Enterprise to now running
Centos 5.5. Works great! I really don't want the 200 gigs worth of NTFS.
Can't I just run

Do I use the mkfs command?
Many thanks...

Broadcom wireless card: installation script for Linux-STA driver
Hi,
I just installed CentOS 6.6 on my HP Pavilion DM1 laptop. The wireless
card is only poorly supported in the default setup, so I decided to
write an installation script for the Linux-STA driver, which works
perfectly.
https://github.com/kikinovak/centos/blob/master/6.x/broadcom-sta/broadcom-sta.sh
Grab the files:
# git clone https://github.com/kikinovak/centos
Run the script:
# cd

bad text under KDE and C7
I recently installed C7 from a C7+gnome CD.
Gnome was awful enough that I promptly installed KDE.
KDE is not doing so well either.
Text in text editors invoked by "opening" a file is flakey at best.
E.g. pieces disappear and duplicate.
Terminals seem ok, including vim invoked from the terminal.
Firefox text seems ok.
The sidebar text in file-browser windows often has "black

CentOS 7.5 (1804) and NetworkManager
Hi,
I'm running CentOS on all kinds of setups: servers, workstations,
desktops and laptops.
Up until now, I'm only using NetworkManager on laptops, since it makes
sense to use it there. On servers and desktop clients, I usually remove
it and configure the network "traditionally" by simply editing
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-whatever, /etc/resolv.conf,
/etc/hosts,

XScreenSaver
Hi,
I'm currently moving all our local school's desktop clients from
Slackware 14.1 to CentOS 7 + Xfce. Right now I'm fine-tuning the default
user profile.
I have a problem with XScreenSaver. The application per se works very
well. Only there's a hard-coded pop-up window that reminds the user that
he's not running the latest version. So, if I'm running version 5.36 as

I would like to do that very much, only NetworkManager makes you jump through
burning loops to do so.
With network-scripts, it

SquidAnalyzer: minor trouble building RPM
Hi,
I'm using the SquidAnalyzer network analysis tool in combination with
Squid. Up until now, I've been running Slackware Linux on my servers. I
built a custom package that installs SquidAnalyzer to
/var/www/vhosts/squidreport/html. Then I setup an Apache virtual host
for SquidAnalyzer's pages.
Since I'm migrating my servers from Slackware to CentOS, I'd like to

C8 and backup solution
Hi list,
I'm searching a valid backup system to perform backups of 3 server, one
local and 2 remote, and 2 linux workstation. (this number could be
higher in future). Currently I'm testing bacula, scripted rsync with
hardlink and borgbackup on C8.1.
Bacula works without any problem, well tested, solid but complex to
configure. Tested on a single server (with volumes on disk) and? a

I just sanded down the remaining edges of my CentOS 7 post-install

some detailed instructions.

Feel free to use it (and/or adapt it to your needs).
Cheers from the sunny South of France,
