My reaction to GNOME 3 has been roughly the same as with systemd. At
first, I hated it with a passion. Then I saw everyone else seemed to use
it. So I started to read the docs and experiment a little bit. And now
I'm using it on

SquidGuard update in EPEL

No, there isn't.
I was just puzzled that there was an update to an application that's
been manifestly dormant for more than ten years.

CentOS 7 + KDE : post-installation script
Hi,
I just spent two rainy days writing and fine-tuning a post-installation
script for CentOS 7 and KDE.
https://github.com/kikinovak/centos-7-desktop-kde
I've just tested it on three different machines here, and it works quite
nicely. Feel free to give it a spin and make some suggestions.
Cheers,

CentOS 7, KDE, Dolphin and MTP support
Hi,
It looks like KDE's file manager Dolphin doesn't support MTP under
CentOS 7. When I plug in an MTP device like my Nikon camera or an
Android phone, Digikam shows its content OK, but Dolphin seems to ignore
it.
For now, my custom CentOS 7 + KDE desktop meets about 99 % of my needs.
Now I've decided to tackle the remaining 1 %. Yesterday for example, I
managed to correct the

"Not using downloaded epel/repomd.xml"
Hi,
I'm regularly getting spammed by my own servers, with the following message:
/etc/cron.hourly/0yum-hourly.cron:

Current : Sat Sep 12 19:05:04 2020

How can I make this nonsense stop?

SquidGuard update in EPEL
Hi,
The SquidGuard URL redirector has recently been updated in EPEL, and I'm
a bit puzzled. I'm still using SquidGuard on a few local proxy servers
running CentOS 7, because it's a nifty piece of software for filtering
web traffic.
The project's home page has remained unchanged for more than ten years:

It looks like the project has been dormant or

CentOS 7 + KDE : post-installation script

This is just temporary. Once things are sorted out (like trouble with
the odd Firefox extension), SELinux goes back to Enforcing.

CentOS 7 + KDE - default keyboard layout?
Hi,
I'm currently fiddling with CentOS 7 and KDE 4.14, and I must say, I'm
pleasantly surprised. This is one of the cleanest implementations of KDE
I've ever seen, and with some tweaking (a lot, in fact) this can be
turned into a highly functional desktop with all the bling and bells and
whistles.
But right now, I have some minor problems to solve. First things first.
My system is

How do I default to "Folder View" in my custom KDE user profile?
Hi,
I'm currently busy tweaking KDE 4.14 on CentOS 7 to my needs. I want to
use it as a base for an enterprise class desktop. In my humble opinion,
CentOS' default KDE configuration is not very usable, so I created a
default user profile that looks more like what openSUSE looked like a
few years back.
Here's the little script I'm using to install the various configuration

CentOS 7 + KDE: sleep mode?
Hi,
One of my clients is running CentOS 7 + KDE 4.14 which I installed for
her. Everything is running nicely. She asked me - more out of curiosity
- if she could use the "Sleep" mode instead of "Shutdown" like she did
when she ran Windows, so the PC would be up and running faster the next
time. I didn't know what to answer, since I don't explicitly use this
mode. Only

CentOS 7 + KDE: Okular view PDF files OK but prints a blank page
Hi,
I recently installed CentOS 7 + KDE 4.14 on my main workstation, and
overall I'm very happy with it.
Okular seems to have trouble with some PDF files. I'm using the Dolibarr
application to generate invoices. I can view the resulting PDF file OK,
but when I try to print it, I get a blank page. A few days ago I had a
similar problem with a PDF file generated from a french

Use EPEL without redirection ?
Hi,
Is there any way to deactivate the redirection to a mirror when using
the third-party EPEL repository ?
Our network uses a transparent HTTP/HTTPS proxy with a local AC. We can
create exceptions for sites like centos.org or
download.fedoraproject.org, but whenever we want to install a package
from EPEL, the mirror redirection causes an error due to redirection.
Any suggestions ?

Citrix receiver and certificates on CentOS 7
Hi,
I'm currently migrating a client's workstation from OpenSUSE Leap 15.0
to my personal blend of CentOS 7 and KDE.
The client has some extra software installed on his machine, and one of
these applications is causing me some troubles: Citrix Receiver.
Here's my old blog article on installing Citrix Receiver on OpenSUSE :

Accessing Android phones on CentOS 7
Hi,
My standard Linux desktop is based on a personal blend of CentOS 7 with
KDE 4.14 and various add-ons from third-party repositories like EPEL and
Nux-Dextop. After a brief stint on OpenSUSE Leap 15.0, this is what I
use on my workstation and on my laptop. And this is also what I install
on my client's machines, just like I did in our local school's computer
room.

There's an easy way to figure that out. Our local school has been 100 %
GNU/Linux since 2010 (when we first installed CentOS 5 on desktops and
servers). On the latest count, I have a hundred users there.
Over the years, I've tried a variety of desktop environments, from GNOME
2.x on CentOS 5.x and CentOS
