Help finishing off Centos 7 RAID install
I completed the install as described below which went well. I then copied the contents of /boot/efi to /boot/efi_copy using cd /boot rsync -acr efi/ efi_copy I then installed grub2 on sdb yum install yum install grub2-efi-modules grub2-install /dev/sdb everything ran as expected with no errors. The instructions then said to test the install by powering off and swapping sda and sdb.

old hardware / minimal netinstall -> CPU fan control
I have just installed CentOS 6 i386 onto an old rack server (it's gonna be a Bacula storeage server and is a 1U 1/2 depth chassis) I did a minimum netinstall and so far so good. However, I have one problem. The CPU fan is going at full speed constantly. Not a real problem apart from (a) it will affect the fan's lifespan and (b) it's noisy. I've done some Googling and found

low end file server with h/w RAID - recommendations
I'm just about to build a new server and I'm looking for recommendations on what hardware to use. I'm happy with either a brand name, or building my own, but would like a hardware RAID controller to run a pair of disks as RAID1 that is actually compatible with and manageable through Linux. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Gary

CentOS 7 grub.cfg missing on new install
Greetings - The short story is that got my new install completed with the partitioning I wanted and using software raid, but after a reboot I ended up with a grub prompt, and do not appear to have a grub.cfg file. So here is a little history of how I got here, because I know in order for anyone to help me they would subsequently ask for this information. So this post is a little long, but

The least demanding distributions I know are Bodhi, https://www.bodhilinux.com/ ,

HP Envy EFI problem after BIOS update
Hi Jim, Thanks for this. I looked into what you said, and once happy I ran the command you gave. It appeared to work as it did not come up with any errors, and the output from efibootmgr showed 1) Centos had been added as an option and 2) it was the first in the boot sequence. However, when I rebooted the laptop went straight into Win8, and after rebooting back into KDE Live, the option is

Problems about installing ruby from source on linux
Hi all, I''m trying to install ruby/ruby on rails from source on ubuntu 7.1. I''ve downloaded ruby-1.8.6 and done a successful install into /usr/ local/ruby. Next, I want to install rubygems without apt-get. So I downloaded rubygems, extracted it and tried to run ruby setup.rb. But it said that cannot load file "zlib". I know that zlib is a part of the standard ruby

RAID1 setup
Continuing this thread, and focusing on RAID1. I got an HPE Proliant gen10+ that has hardware RAID support.? (can turn it off if I want). I am planning two groupings of RAID1 (it has 4 bays). There is also an internal USB boot port. So I am really a newbie in working with RAID.? From this thread it sounds like I want /boot and /boot/efi on that USBVV boot device. Will it work to put / on

Detecting empty office doc containing virus macro
We are receiving LOTS of emails that contain empty XLS or DOC documents with embedded virus macros. These are getting past SPAMASSASSIN, Clamav and Kaspersky. I'm trying to write a filter for EXIM to block these emails but I need to know a good, quick, command-line to detect an empty doc with a macro. Is there anything available that I can use?? I have managed to write a PERL script to
