Erratic local hostname resolution with Dnsmasq
Hi, My local server is running CentOS 7. The machine has two NICs and is acting as a gateway. For DHCP and DNS, I'm using Dnsmasq. I have a strange little problem with local hostname resolution. Before going into more details, here's my configuration. [root at nestor:~] # ifconfig enp2s0: flags=4163<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 inet 192.168.0.2 netmask

Samba shares not appearing
Hi, I'm currently fiddling with Samba, trying to make it work on CentOS 7. Before that, I ran Samba successfully in a mixed environment with Slackware64 14.1 on the server and Slackware/Windows Seven on the client side. I have three sandbox machines running CentOS 7. One has a minimal install with only the samba and samba-client packages. Just to be on the safe side for fiddling,

Centos 7.4.1708 dependency problems
Everyone, I had four Centos 7.4 machines of which I did a manual yum update and ended up having the same problems on each machine. It looks like the packages below have dependency problems with the recent update to : CentOS Linux release 7.4.1708 (Core) Packages skipped because of dependency problems: gvfs-1.30.4-3.el7.x86_64 from base gvfs-afc-1.30.4-3.el7.x86_64 from base

Can't access Samba shares from Nautilus

OK, I've investigated this a little further, and it looks like I have a partial success. In Nautilus, I pressed Ctrl+L and then typed in the Samba server URL: smb://amandine Now my two shares ("Public" and "Confidentiel") appeared OK in

After some more fiddling, I guess I found a solution to my problem. If we formulate the problem differently, we can say that the clients use the information provided by Dnsmasq, but the

Samba4 winbind and .gvfs share mounting in Nautilus problem
Hi everyone I have S4 with winbind working fine with s3fs. Fine that is only when logging in where it auto-mounts my own /home folder. When I log in, my /home folder is correctly mounted automatically: gvfs-fuse-daemon on /home/CACTUS/steve/.gvfs type fuse.gvfs-fuse-daemon (rw,nosuid,nodev,user=CACTUS\steve2) When I attempt to access another share by e.g. smb://server/reports (or any other

Transparent Squid and FirewallD : fine-tuning question
Hi, I just setup a very basic HTTP proxy with Squid on a router running CentOS 7. Up until early 2020 I've been using a bone-headed shell script with iptables to configure my firewall. But I decided to follow advice from a few gurus on this list, and I've since moved my configurations to FirewallD, which works nicely. There's one configuration left to tackle, that's port

Trouble setting up HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer on CentOS 7 + KDE
Hi Niki don't you need a hplip addon/plugin, which you can fetch from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html There, with the wizard, you get a file hplip-3.x.x.run which you download and run using bash hplip-3.x.x.run This will install the addon/plugin. suomi On 11/11/2016 08:49 AM, Nicolas Kovacs wrote: > Hi, > > I just installed a CentOS 7 + KDE desktop

Trouble setting up HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer on CentOS 7 + KDE
Hi, I just installed a CentOS 7 + KDE desktop in my office's network. So far, I'm quite happy with the results, though I have some trouble getting the printer to work. All the other machines in my office (server, desktops, workstation) are running Slackware64 14.1 or 14.2, and they can all use the printer perfectly. I installed hplip-gui and ran it. The printer is a network printer, it

Import Nautilus file notes from C6 Gnome to C7 Mate
With C6 Gnome and C7 Mate you can right-click on a file icon, select Properties, select Notes, and write notes about your file. Does anyone know if those notes can be directly transferred between C6 Gnome and C7 Mate? I'm looking into upgrading someone's desktop machine to C7 and she has a lot of notes attached to her files that she doesn't want to lose. After doing a bit of

Squid on CentOS 7: few questions

I edited the default /etc/squid/squid.conf, and here's what I have so far: --8<-------------------------------------------------- # /etc/squid/squid.conf # Nom d'h?te du serveur Squid visible_hostname amandine.microlinux.lan #
