For a specialized software, we have to wait for the developers to certify
each new OS. They are still recommending 7.3. One reason in particular is
that 7.5 has a fix for Meltdown and Spectre, which known to reduce
performance. This machine will be

Check version from installer disc
Is there some way to see what version will be installed by an installation
disc? I made a USB installer and I forgot whether it's CentOS 7.3 or 7.5.
Short of running the whole installer and seeing what happens, I can't see
any way to get this info from within Anaconda.

ggplot2 ordering in a faceted dotplot.
am trying to produce two dot plot figures in ggplot2. So far the first one (p) in the program below is working fine.
However when I want to move to a faceted plot (p1) I seem to lose my ordering or, more likely, I'm just getting an ordering I am not expecting and I always have trouble understanding ordering in R!
What I would like is the 2011 panel to be ordered in descending order as is

Missing CPU Cores from 2nd Socket
Has anyone else noticed an issue when running CentOS 7.2.1511 on ESXi 6.0, where only the first sockets worth of cores appear to be presented to the kernel?
For example, I've set up a VM on an ESXi 6 node with 2 sockets, each of which has 2 cores attached. Once I start up the server I can see in dmidecode that both sockets are populated, each with a dual-core processor. But, within top,

More Cores or more CPU Speed
Hi Guys,
in next week i plan to upgrade my Asterisk Server. To buy the optimal Hardware i have a question.
What is better more cores (eg. 2x quadcore) or more CPU speed for a server that handle a lot of of Meetme Concerences with hundreds of concurrent G711 alaw Channels (no transcoding) ?
in my opinion, more cores are better, because Asterisk ist multithreded and each channel has a good

How can I use muliple cores of CPU in Windows or OS X?
Dear all,
I have about 50 pages of R codes and ran it in both OS X and Windows.
It takes at least haft a day to have the results. The running time is not very different in both Systems.
I found that R does not use all cores of CPU by default.
Can anybody help me to use all cores of CPU in my programming from the beginning or through programming in both OS X and Windows?
Many thanks your

Trouble installing with Nvidia card
Hi all,
I'm having trouble doing a fresh install of CentOS 7.3. I'm using the DVD
installer ISO, burned to a USB flash drive. The system is a Supermicro
7048 with four Nvidia Titan Xp GPUs, and I have the monitor connected to
the first GPU. In the BIOS, VGA priority is set to Offboard, so I am
seeing POST messages (good).
The CentOS installer begins and shows a few messages on my

program to hide X11 windows
hi all
I am looking for a program that will "hide" a window when it opens under
X11.
There is a program called devilspie but it requires gnome-panel to be
running to work.
On some of my workstations I dont have gnome-panel running.
So I was wondering if there is a program like devilspie that does not
require gnome-panel to be running to hide a program window.
The window I am trying

C7 hide bottom panel
After much searching I found how to hide the panel.
dbus-send --print-reply --session --type=method_call --dest=org.gnome.Shell
/org/gnome/Shell org.gnome.Shell.Eval string:'Main.panel.actor.hide();'
Works great...
However - I also wish to hide the bottom panel or workspace.
Anyone know what that is???
I tried Main.Workspace.actor.hide() and that did not work.
Thanks,
jerry

I will not be running any updates, because I need to keep a specific old
version for software compatibility. I don't know which ISO the USB stick
was made from.

Missing /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq
What could be the reason for /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq non-existing?
The cpu supports EIST.
My guess is this may not be available because of cpu power/performance settings
in the BIOS, but I can't take down production machines to play with this. Any
ideas? The HW is Dell PER 5xx/7xx series.
