Seagate - experience/opinion on vendor?
If ti makes you feel any better, I am not having stellar service from WD's support. In fact, they act like they never received the HD I sent for RMA whose tracking number says they did 10 days ago. Seagate announces enterprise SSD
FYI, Seagate has announced a new enterprise SSD. The specs appear to be competitive: + 2.5" form factor + 5 year warranty + power loss protection + 0.44% annual failure rate (AFR) (2M hours MTBF, IMHO too low :-) + UER 1e-16 (new), 1e-15 (5 years) + 30,000/25,000 4 KB read IOPS (peak/aligned zero offset) + 30,000/10,500 4 KB write IOPS (peak/aligned zero offset)

Seagate floppy creator program doesnt work
Hi there, http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/download/seatoold_en.exe Seagate offers a Windows executable (needs Win98 or better, 1,9MB) that should create 2 bootable floppy disks that contain a harddrive check program. Invoking "wine seatoold_en.exe" works, but when the floppy should be written, an error occurs "insert 1.44 MB...click retry". I tried to mount a DOS

Seagate Constellation vs. Hitachi Ultrastar
Happy Friday, List! I''m spec''ing out a Thumper-esque solution and having trouble finding my favorite Hitachi Ultrastar 2TB drives at a reasonable post-flood price. The Seagate Constellations seem pretty reasonable given the market circumstances but I don''t have any experience with them. Anybody using these in their ZFS systems and have you had good luck? Also, if

Seagate ST32000542AS and ZFS perf
Hi, Does anyone use Seagate ST32000542AS disks with ZFS? I wonder if the performance is not that ugly as with WD Green WD20EARS disks. Thanks, -- Piotr Jasiukajtis | estibi | SCA OS0072 http://estseg.blogspot.com

mounting & partitioning Seagate FreeAgent external HD
Hi all, As a disclaimer, I'm new to this list and very green administering CentOS. I run it on my test servers and do very basic networking and server administration (most users, permissions, and web app stuff). I have a backup server that I am using rsync to collect important in-process file for our digital library from both Windows and Linux servers, as well as a specific applications

bad seagate drive?
Hi list, I''ve got a system with 3 WD and 3 seagate drives. Today I got an email that zpool status indicated one of the seagate drives as REMOVED. I''ve tried clearing the error but the pool becomes faulted again. Taken out the offending drive and plugged into a windows box with seatools install. Unfortunately seatools finds nothing wrong with the drive. Windows seems to see

Backing up Samba shares with Seagate Backup Exec for NT
Hello, Does anyone have experience backing up their samba SMB shares with an NT-based backup system? I'm using Seagate Backup Exec 7.0, and whenever I select a share on Samba, I get a message saying "Unable to connect to server, <F5> to retry", and then another one saying "A device specefic error occured". My samba shares are all fully operational (I can access them

Subject: Samba and Seagate BackupExec
Hi Franck, to my knowledge, the Backup Exec service "runs" under a certain user. In most cases it is the user who installed it, so very often "Administrator". Now if you try to backup a Samba share, Backup Exec tries to retrieve the files of this share and has to authenticate to the Samba Server. I suspect it will do this with the "credentials" of the user the Backup

win32:DEVICE_Open Unknown VxD A:. Try --winver nt40 or win31 !
Hi, I was hoping to use wine to run one of those stupid windows binaries that generate a floppy (at least IBM has a clue, and also offers the raw floppy image for dd-ing) In this case, the culprit is seagate's seatools: http://www.seagate.com/support/seatools/ I installed wine under debian unstable (Version: 0.0.20010824-1) and when I run the windows binary under wine, it runs but
