GNOME, numeric keypad & commas
Hi, Our local school has a 100 % CentOS network on servers and desktops. Until recently, we were using a highly customized Xfce desktop environment. Last week I decided to migrate all desktops from Xfce to GNOME, which went quite well. Now I have to sand down some rough edges. The secretary complained that she can't use the numeric keypad as before. She's using LibreOffice Calc a lot,

Centos 7.5 - Gnome3 - KVM - Keypad numeric failure
Everyone, I have a problem with the numeric keypad while using a Centos 7.5 new installation with kvm. When I login to the host machine using gnome3 or classic gnome the numeric keypad does not function. If I activate another 7.5 guest machine with gnome3 the numeric keypad on the guest does not work either. If I login on the host machine using kde as the desktop the keypad works fine and

kvm & keypad on Centos 7.5
Everyone, I have a lab computer I am using to test kvm. It was difficult to install with NetworkManager running. After I turned nm off I got the bridge to work and to stay in place. NetworkManager kept chaning things. I have several things I would like to learn and to tweak with KVM and virtal machines. The first small tweak is how to turn on the keypad on a keyboard. I have tried two

Plasma problem with numeric keypad
Hi list, I'm running CentOS 8.2 with Plasma from EPEL and I noticed that I have problem using numeric keypad of my keyboard when using plasma application like Konsole, Kcalc, Konqueror and all application of Plasma. Using Firefox, Thunderbird, xterm, Libreoffice all works as expected. So this problem is related to Plasma application. I noticed the same problem on sddm login. I noticed

CentOS 7 and xfce
I finally have got around to installing centos 7 and usually do a pretty minimal installation, I chose the virtualization host, since that will be the primary purpose. However I have hit a snag, I usually install xfce from epel and go along my way but there appears to be a bug in the xfce package: Error: Package: xfdesktop-4.10.2-2.el7.x86_64 (epel) Requires: desktop-backgrounds-basic

Video troubles after 7.5 upgrade using CR repo
Hi, Our desktop clients are running CentOS 7 with the Xfce desktop from EPEL. The CR repository is enabled. A few days ago I launched an update, which brought in close to 1 GB of packages. I had some weird problems on two clients. One is an old Dell Optiplex 330 with a legacy video card. Red Hat is Planning To Deprecate KDE on RHEL By 2024
https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/11/02/rhel_deprecates_kde/ That's still several years in the future, of course. I use Mate on all of my machines rather than Gnome or KDE and I'm sure many of you fine folks do the same. But it's interesting nonetheless. -- MELVILLE THEATRE ~ Real D 3D Digital Cinema ~ www.melvilletheatre.com

Getting to Mate or Xfce
My wife bought a new Thinkpad, on which we had the shop install CentOS 7 (I *think* it's 7.3.) Alas!, I didn't think to specify NOT Gnome, in thunder. So of course I got it. I've tried several times to force myself to accommodate Gnome3, always with no joy. How do I get Mate or Xfce instead? Related problem: when I become root and tell it "yum update," it figures out

Custom user profile for GNOME 3?
Hi, I wonder where - and eventually how - GNOME 3 stores its user preferences. I'd like to create a custom user profile, with slightly different settings than the default ones: * don't show home folder on ~/Desktop * don't show Trash * use custom default wallpaper * stretch wallpaper instead of zooming * use different default icon theme * etc. Until now I've done this

Telephony keypad
Does anybody know if there are any external telephone-keypads for sale anywhere? (containing the keys 0-9, *, # and onhook/offhook would do) I am looking for a keypad to control a softphone and would prefer the controls to be in the physical world instead of as a window. Sincerely, Markus Hakansson

Centos 8 Mate?
Without wanting to sound too pushy, I'm wondering if there is any update on the status of Mate now that Centos 8 has been released? I would love to jump on C8 and start playing with it, but the lack of Mate is kind of a showstopper for me at the moment. -- MELVILLE THEATRE ~ Real D 3D Digital Cinema ~ www.melvilletheatre.com
