Xen 3.0.3 disk i/o
Hello, I''ve seen from time to time where a domU using heavy disk I/O can slow down an entire server (including all other domU''s and dom0). Is there a way to schedule or limit this in Xen 3.0.3? Thank you, Brian ** _______________________________________________ Xen-devel mailing list Xen-devel@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-devel

IO causing major performance issues
Hello everyone. I'm wondering what other people's experiences are WRT systems becoming unresponsive (unable to ssh in, etc) for brief periods of time when a large amount of IO is being performed. It's really starting to cause a problem for us. We're on Dell PowerEdge 1955 blades - but this same issue has caused us problems on PE1950, PE1850, PE1750 servers. We're running

The problem is that for some reason, carrying outany CPU/Disk intensive task on the Dom0 seems to be affecting the DomUs adversly. For ex.i noticed that my Domus become extremly

I dont see HOW it can be taking so much CPU. top at times shows 0 idle

lots of disk activity keep process from responding
hi all I have something like 3000 log files in a directory (from data collection). At 4am in the morning cron runs a script of mine that essentiallly trims all files in that directory back to a certain size. Basically does a "tail -c XXXX filename > tmp_filename" I have noticed that only around the 4am-4:15 time frame when the trim is happening does my other process log connection

3Ware 9550SX and latency/system responsiveness
Dear list, I thought I'd just share my experiences with this 3Ware card, and see if anyone might have any suggestions. System: Supermicro H8DA8 with 2 x Opteron 250 2.4GHz and 4GB RAM installed. 9550SX-8LP hosting 4x Seagate ST3250820SV 250GB in a RAID 1 plus 2 hot spare config. The array is properly initialized, write cache is on, as is queueing (and supported by the drives). StoreSave

Possible to use multiple disk to bypass I/O wait?
I'm trying to resolve an I/O problem on a CentOS 5.6 server. The process basically scans through Maildirs, checking for space usage and quota. Because there are hundred odd user folders and several 10s of thousands of small files, this sends the I/O wait % way high. The server hits a very high load level and stops responding to other requests until the crawl is done. I am wondering if I add

machine responsiveness with centos 5.1
every other day I do full backups to both a second internal disk and an external usb disk. I am using a fully up to date centos 5.1 AMD 64 X2 6400+ machine. with SATA disks. using an NVIDIA chipset, when I do a full rsync the responsiveness of my machine suffers. Slow on the internal disk and really slow on external usb. doing "top" shows 0% idle but only 17% CPU usage by the rsync

Question on server speed
Hi all, I have a customer server with 32 cores, 128G ram i7960X. So nice box... Why is it that "all" I am really doing at the moment is copying things to an external SSD disk USB3 connected and the machine "freezes"... Why is that? clearly plenty of CPU RAM everything... I can see "blocking" to write data to the external disk - but there are 31 other cores and

heavy IO load when working with sparse files (centos 6.4)
Dear List, We have noticed a variety of reproducible conditions working with sparse files on multiple servers under load with CentOS 6.4. The short story is that processes that read / write sparse files with large "holes" can generate an IO storm. Oddly, this only happens with holes and not with the sections of the files that contain data. We have seen extremely high IO load for

Dell server dropping packets
Hi All - I have a Dell R430 server running CentOS 7.5 that is dropping packets on the network. Its connected to Cisco switch at AUTO for the port. The server reports 1000M on the network. I even changed the setting for the switch to 1000M full, that did not seem to make a difference either. What else might I look at as to why its dropping packets? Its mainly 90'ish percent idle. so not

Can anyone explain how the disk elevator works and if there is anyway to tweak it? I have an email server which likely has a large number of read and write requests and was wandering if there was anyway to improve performance. Matt

KVM on CentOS 7 - sluggish performance with Win10 Guest
Hey all,  I've been running a Win10 Pro (64bit) guest for some time now.... and originally it was pretty snappy and I had no complaints. Somewhere in about the last 3-6 months I've been noticing sluggish performance -- but not overall. The system is mostly remote so I do a lot of my admin via RDP or the local console with the KVM Manager. I recently did a complete fresh install of

Right way to set IO scheduler on CentOS
Hello, I'd like to set the io scheduler on some of the disks on our Dom0 (CentOS 5) to "deadline". The way I found to do this is with "echo deadline > /sys/block/sdb/queue/scheduler". What is the Right Way(TM) to set this automatically during boot? I sort of expected to use sysctl but it appears to only deal with pseudo-files under /proc/sys, not /sys. Also

sluggish stream problem - help
Hi, I am a newbie here. I just tried to set up mp3 streamer server on Redhat Linux 7.2, using icecast and shout. I then tried to connect to the server, from another machine and different LAN, using xmms. And the stream is so sluggish, it gets cuts off for every 2 seconds or so. Both LANs (the server and where I am connected from) are T1. My mp3 was all encoded in 128 KBps. I then asked someone

Gluster machines slowing down over time
I have 2 gluster servers in replicated mode on EC2 with ~4G RAM CPU and RAM look fine but over time the system becomes sluggish, particularly networking. I notice when sshing into the machine takes ages and running remote commands with capistrano takes longer and longer. Any kernel settings people typically use? ionice
Hi Everyone, I''m experimenting with ionice, and I have to say at first impressions I''m very impressed! Does anyone have any idea how I could script the ionice config? I''m using phy for my DomUs so everything appears in ps as blkback.<DOMID>.xvda1 The problem is, is that the process id for the blkback process will change after every DomU restart,
