CentOS 7 + KDE: Okular view PDF files OK but prints a blank page
Hi,
I recently installed CentOS 7 + KDE 4.14 on my main workstation, and
overall I'm very happy with it.
Okular seems to have trouble with some PDF files. I'm using the Dolibarr
application to generate invoices. I can view the resulting PDF file OK,
but when I try to print it, I get a blank page. A few days ago I had a
similar problem with a PDF file generated from a french

data.frame: adding a column that is based on ranges of values in another column
Dear List,
I've been looking tirelessly for a solution to this dilemma but without success. Perhaps someone has an idea that will guide me in the right direction.
Suppose I have the following data.frame:
DF = data.frame(X = c(114.5508, 114.6468, 114.6596, 114.6957, 114.6828, 114.8903, 114.9519, 114.8842,
114.8579, 114.8489), Y = c(47.14094, 46.98874, 46.91235, 46.88265, 46.80584, 46.67022,

How to start okular from windows app
Hello,
I run successfully an .NET- app by using wine. Inside this application
some links are provided to open pdf- doc's. I like to use the
"linux-side" okular to display these documents. Is this possible?
If I start the app in a console, then these messages were shown after
clicking on the link:

Weird Okular/KDE error - thousand procs spawned
Hello all:
I'm trying to troubleshoot a strange and repeatable error and not sure
where to log the bug report.
I subscribe to Linux Journal and download their PDF. The DLJ230.pdf
opens in the Okular PDF reader from Konqueror. If I scroll down to
the ad for some colo site (www.ovh.com) and click the right side of
the page, I immediately start getting hundreds of alerts on the
desktop.

Is wxRuby-SWIG version usable enough to package for download?
If wxRuby-SWIG is as usable as wxRuby 0.6.0, maybe it should be given a
version number and packaged up for download.
Given the nature of SWIG, having a lot more people use it would probably
result in more code contributions to this project.
Seems most of the changes are 2+ months old, so I''m guessing wxRuby-SWIG
is fairly stable right now in terms of frequency of changes...

Conversions From standard to metric units
I am starting to use R for almost any sort of calculation that I need.
I am a biologist that works in the states, and there is often a need
to convert from standard units to metric units. Is there a package in
R for this already? If not I believe that I am going to write some of
the most often used in function form. My question is should I include
this in my StreamMetabolism package. It is

evince not showing "greek" and "math" in *.pdf plots
HI I?aki,?
That's interesting.?
I may be wrong but I think it's the Symbol font that's got the
substitution bug, not Helvetica.?
? fc-match "Symbol"
StandardSymbolsPS.t1: "Standard Symbols PS" "Regular"
Is what I get, but then in the Evince properties it's telling me that
it's substituting Symbol with "Noto Sans Regular", despite the

Nothing seems to work when using Wine.
Hello,
I downloaded Wine 1.0.0 today for Ubuntu 8.04, but nothing seems to work like it should. I've tried to install several games, none of them works, and they all do one of the following:
1) It looks like it's loading like it should, but then the screen tears apart and I see a lot of blue lines which are about 5 millimeters thick on my screen. This makes it impossible to do anything.

Tiff image handling like MODI
Greetings,
I have been searching for some application with functionalities like
MODI (Microsoft office Document Imaging)
Many I have checked does not cut it or not cross platform.
Evince just allows multipage viewing, not extraction of individual
pages in to another file.
GUI is a necessity.
I am aware of tifflib, imagemagick, but but not sure about a decent
GUI wrappers for them.
The file

evince not showing "greek" and "math" in *.pdf plots
Martin, I wouldn't rule out an R issue yet. Fonts are... tricky. So I'm
cc'ing Paul Murrell here.
I tried several viewers here and I see the following: Chrome, Firefox and
Libreoffice Draw show the symbols; however, evince, okular and xournal++
agree on **not** showing the symbols. **If** there is a bug, the bug would
be in fontconfig, because these ones AFAIK properly delegate on

TeX Live on CentOS 7
Hi,
I just installed the OpenVAS vulnerability scanner on my CentOS 7
workstation. Everything seems to work fine, except PDF generation. The
'openvas-check-setup' script tells me that PDF generation works fine,
but whenever I want to generate a report, the result is unusable and
can't open in Evince or Okular.
After googling a bit, I found out that several users complained that Tex

Wrong symbol rendering in plots (Ubuntu)
Hi I am having problems with the rendering of scientific symbols (mu and
degree) in my plots. Whenever I use these symbols they are rendered
changed (mu is changed to the proportionality symbol and degree is
changed to something resembling a gamma) in the X-device. If I make a
pdf of the plot and open the file in Evince or Okular symbols are also
rendered wrong, however if I open the file

Q about dpi, fonts, gnome, Xorg etc
This has been puzzling me for some time and despite bothering Auntie
Google rather a lot, I've yet to find a satisfying answer.
As an old-time (since 1981) unix and X guy, I've generally been fairly
well-able to get fonts to behave in a rational manner. My needs are
pretty simple - I just want 8-point (or 9-point etc) fonts to appear on
the screen as 8-point font - ie more or less 8 *

More help with Binary Files
Does anyone else have any insights to this issue:
Henrick, thank you for your very quick response. I've examined the readBin
help file with respect to endian and I'm still not sure I'm getting this
correct.
Here is what I'm coding:
con <- file(file.choose(), open="rb")
Year66 <- readBin(con, what=integer(), signed = TRUE, size = 2,
endian="little", n
