Red Hat is Planning To Deprecate KDE on RHEL By 2024
https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/11/02/rhel_deprecates_kde/ That's still several years in the future, of course. I use Mate on all of my machines rather than Gnome or KDE and I'm sure many of you fine folks do the same. Gnome-3 - can't drag menu items out
I've mostly been using MATE from epel when I use GUI access on CentOS7 because it works with x2go, but just noticed on a system with Gnome3 that I can't drag items out of the menus to the desktop or top bar for easier access. Is there some way to make the desktop space useful for more than pretty wallpaper? -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell at gmail.com

Ailing MATE desktop
I need some C8 troubleshooting help with MATE. I'm building a ZFS storage server with a SuperMicro H11SSL motherboard, EPYC 7232 CPU, and 32 GB ECC SDRAM. I installed CentOS 8.1.1911 from the iso as soon as it was released. I'm using the on-board ASPEED VGA video. I installed MATE v1.22 from https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/stenstorp/MATE/. The following packages are installed:

MATE 1.20 test build for CentOS 7 available
Hi everyone, There's been discussions in the past about updating MATE RPMs in EPEL-7: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1436260 https://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/2019-August/173154.html (and lots of others...) As a proof-of-concept, I've written some scripts that clone specific commits from the Fedora master branches, and then runs a tool to re-apply RPM scriptlets

Saving windows and settings in CentOS 7 running MATE
I have installed gnome session save and restore per http://blog.thewebsitepeople.org/2013/07/gnome-session-save-and-restore/. I am running the MATE Desktop on CentOS 7 but the app above does not seem to save and restore the positions and sizes of directory listing windows, nor does it save the order of the windows on the taskbar at the bottom. Does anyone have a better solution?

Mate on Centos 7
I have been running Mate on Centos 7 for some time but it does not work very well on my HiDPI laptop screen. Today I found that I am running version 1.16 of Mate whereas the current version is 1.22. Undoubtedly many of the issues have been fixed since 1.16 was released in 2016... However, EPEL only provides 1.16 - a release from 2016 - and nothing later. What is the recommended way to upgrade to

mate-terminal crash when using drag-n-drop tabs
We're using mate-terminal (1.16.3) from EPEL on CentOS 7.4 with the Mate desktop, but mate-terminal crashes when we do the following: Start mate-terminal, open a tab (File -> Open Tab) then with the left mouse button drag a tab and drop it in the same terminal window - and the terminal window crashes ... I did a bit of Googling, and found this issue reported in earlier releases of
