Practical limit on dial prefixes for a route
Colleagues,
We're in the process of standardizing on Sprint PCS and Cingular phones on a
national basis (~ 50 properties, 1000's of lines). I manage an Asterisk
install at one location.
I've been looking at the Multitech CellFinder CDMA for Sprint as a dial
backup solution. Basically, it's a CDMA to POTS gateway, tied to a PCS
account. We would see it as a trunk line and I

Asterisk -> Streaming Audio Bridge
Greetings,
Does anyone know of a tool that can act as a VoIP client and stream to a
streaming server such as shoutcast/icecast, etc.
I've got a client interested in doing basketball play by plays during
tourney season. They have * in place now and the bandwidth to burn for
streaming out. In the old world, I did an analog phone patch -> mixer ->
encoder -> streaming server. What

asterisk server as a voicemail server forlegacyPBX -- FXO or FXS???
Thanks. Is there a way I can log into the Merlin Magix to determine
that? How else do I tell?

Large number of prefixes in a route to a trunk
We're beginning to test MultiTech's CallFinder CDMA Units, one for Sprint
PCS and one for Alltel. They sell both. Our intent is to use them as a
backup line for our main office (which has a PRI) and a backup/911 line for
our remote offices which are all connected via * over a VPN with no local
trunks at any of them.
In the interest of maximizing use of the lines, I'm putting

Openvpn and samba: play nice together?
You definetly need a TAP connection to make samba work over VPN. We use OpenVPN host2net-accounts created with IPCop here since quite a while and it works with samba without problems. However, the speed is of course not as fast as in local net, but this is rather related to the way the SMB-protocoll works. ;-)

Mapping drive
We have a server running linux with a samba shared directory. We have sever
windows xp machines that map the samba shared directory using the same user
name and password. All has gone well for a couple of years. Now, on some
of the machines, it won't allow the mapping of the samba share reporting
"Access denied" I have made sure that the proper user name and password is
used.

Fractional Factorial Design
Hi all,
Does anybody know if it is possible to build a fractional factorial design
in R? That is, suppose that we want do design an experiment with 3 factors
with 2, 3 and 3 levels, respectivly. However we want to consider, let's say,
only 6 from all possible level combinations. Does R design such experiment?
Thanks in advance,
Caio

Ubuntu 8.04 breaks samba file locking
Just upgraded Saturday from Ubuntu 7.10 to 8.04.01. File locking in Samba is now
broken, meaning two different users can have the same file open at the same time
and edit it.
Server is RedHat 9.0 running Samba 2.2.7a-security-rollup-fix. This has been
working well for us for several years. Have one WinXP box accessing the server
using OOo 2.0. Have another couple of Win95 boxes.

Openvpn and samba: play nice together?
Friends--
I'm stumped! Cannot get mount.cifs to work over a tun connection. How
would you trouble-shoot this?
1. It cannot be openvpn causing the problem: I can ping across the
connection both directions on all machines.
2. It cannot be samba causing the problem: I can mount.cifs the smb
shares on the lan (using the identical credentials file) without any issue.
3. Have iptables

rms R code
Greetings, useRs.
Does anybody have replication of the examples from the RMS book by Harrell coded in R? I find that most the code does not work and it takes too much time to debug.
For example from p.276

> f.full <- lrm(cvd~scored(rx)+rcs(dtime,5)+age.t+wt.t+pf.t+hx+sbp+ekg.t+sz.t+sg.t+ap.t+bm+hg.t,x=T,y=T)

fitting gamm with interaction term
Hi all,
I would like to fit a gamm model of the form:
Y~X+X*f(z)
Where f is the smooth function and
With random effects on X and on the intercept.
So, I try to write it like this:
gam.lme<- gamm(Y~ s(z, by=X) +X, random=list(groups=pdDiag(~1+X)) )
but I get the error message :

lme4, error in mer_finalize(ans)
Using lmer() on my data results in an error. The problem,
I think, is my model specification. However, lm() works
ok.
I recreated this error with a more simple dataset. (See
code below.)

Unpredictable EPS->PDF rotation (PR#4460)
Dear r-bugs,
When I create EPS files, they sometimes appear rotated in my LaTeX PDF
document and sometimes they don't. Two examples:
## x1.eps is not rotated in LaTeX
x <- seq(-1, 1, length=100)
postscript("c:/x1.eps", height=3, width=4,
horizontal=FALSE, onefile=FALSE, paper="special")
plot(x, dnorm(x), type="l")

Question about data used to fit the mixed model
Hi everyone,
I would like to ask a question regarding to the data used to fit the mixed
model.
I wonder that, for the response variable data used to fit the mixed model
(either via "spm" or "lme"), we must have several observations per subject
(i.e. Yij, i = 1,..,M, j = 1,.., ni) or it can be just one observation per
subject (i.e. Yi, i = 1,...,M). Since we have to

Thanks.

find confounder in covariates
Hi,
I was wondering if there is a way, or function in R to
find confounders. For istance,
> a = sample( c(1:3), size=10,replace=T)
> X1 = factor( c('A','B','C')[a] )
> X2 = factor( c('Aa','Bb','Cc')[a] )
> Xmat = data.frame(X1,X2,rnorm(10),rnorm(10))
> dimnames(Xmat)[[2]] = c('z1','z2','z3','y')
Now,
