thanks; after some waiting time, 1804 now keeps repeating "dracut
initqueue timeout - starting timeout scripts" for a while, then drops
into the emergency shell. no suspicious error messages in the log.

Centos 7 on Dell Latitude E6500
Does this laptop have the Nvidia Quadro graphics option? If so try
booting with NOMODESET. Also, if available in the BIOS turn OFF
switchable graphics.

Mike, Johnny,
BIOS is version A29, which is the latest one on the dell website.

no, it just has intel onboard graphics, there's also no option for
switchable graphics in the BIOS. NOMODESET didn't change anything,

device-mapper multipath
I am attempting to get multipath working with device-mapper (CentOS
4.2 and 4.3). It works on EVERY install of mine from RH (also v4.2,
4.3), but the same multipath.conf imported to all my installs of
CentOS do not work. Note that I have tested a working 4.2
configuration file from RH on CentOS 4.2 and a working 4.3
configuration (it changed slightly) on CentOS 4.3. Neither worked. Our

CentOS 7 + Dell Latitude E6420 laptop = thermal shutdown
Hi,
Thanks for reading this.
I installed CentOS 7 (tried the latest ISO image and the previous build) on the laptop and got to the point where I am logging into the desktop environment and the laptop just shuts down. I check the event log in BIOS and find that a thermal event has occurred and the system powered off to prevent damage.
I can take the same laptop with Windows 7 installed and run

which Latitude? they've probably made 100 different laptops over the
last couple decades branded 'Latitude'.
I bet my wife's new Latitude 15 5000 would be problematic, it uses USB
C/Thunderport for its docking station which has 2 additional video
adapters in it. She's even having some issues

New laptop recomendation
Hi,
I'm recently retired from my university job. I am looking for a laptop
to run CentOS 6/7. My university was a traditional Dell site so I've
used Latitude laptops for years, currently E6500/E6510.
Anybody got any experience of running CentOS on the newer Dell
Latitudes E5000 or E7000. These are not certified according to Redhats'
Hardware Guide.

lvm with iscsi devices on boot
Hi All,
My CentOS 5.1 server is using iSCSI attached disks connecting
to a dual controller storage array. I have also configured multipathd
to manage the multiple paths. Everything works well, and on
boot the dev nodes are automatically created in /dev/mapper.
On these devices, I have created logical volumes using lvm2.
My problem is that lvm does not recognize these iscsi/multipath
volumes on

Multipathing with Sun 7310
Dear list,
we have a relatively new Sun Storage 7310, where we connect CentOS 5.5
Servers (IBM LS21/LS41 Blades) via Brocade Switches, 4GBit FC. The Blades
boot from SAN via qla2xxx, and have no harddisks at all. We want them to
use multipathing from the very beginning, so /boot and / are already seen
by multipathd. Problem is, that the Sun 7310 has two storage heads which

Cannot remove lvs associated with deleted vm guests
At the beginning of January I encountered a problem where
several vm guests on a single host somehow managed to see
the the virtual disks assigned to other guests on the same
hosts. I was unable to resolve this situation and
shutdown the affected guests after creating new guest
instances and moving the services and data off the
corrupted guests.
I have since removed these guests via virt-manager

multipath troubleshoot
Hi,
My storage admin just assigned a Lun (fibre) to my server. Then re scanned using
echo "1" > /sys/class/fc_host/host5/issue_lip
echo "1" > /sys/class/fc_host/host6/issue_lip
I can see the scsi device using dmesg
But mpath device are not created for this LUN

maximum cpus/cores in CentOS 4.1
What is the maximum number of AMD64 cores supported by CentOS 4?
The RedHat page https://www.redhat.com/software/rhel/configuration/
suggests that RHEL 4 AS supports up to 8 AMD64/EM64T logical cpus. Is
that accurate and does it apply to CentOS 4?
I see a few vendors offering boxes with 8 (dual core) CPU sockets.
IWILL for one.
Thanks,
