C6 or C7 for an old netbook
I've got an old HP Netbook, which is just fine for taking with when I'm travelling, to check email and news. I have a very old Ubuntu netbook-remix on it, and it really, *really* needs to be updated to something current. I, of course, would prefer CentOS.... The question is: I see that *if* the specs I just looked up (I'm at work, not home, where I could just turn it on, but they

C6 and xfce
Hi, folks, So I installed xfce on my Netbook. While I was in Chicago, I worked out how to tell it to bring it up. It came up. As root. With no obvious way to tell it to show a login screen first. Did I miss something? mark

Install C7 VM on C6 Host
I would think the same as Gordon that as long as your 64-bit VM virtualization is running properly there should be no problem running C7 on a VM running under C6. May I ask what the initial doubt was based upon? Has anybody out there had such an issue before? Cheers, Boris. Install C7 VM on C6 Host
Hey all, Before I waste myself a bunch of time trying the impossible I figured I would ask if I can install an instance of C7 in a KVM based VM on a C6 host. -- _ ?v? /(_)\ ^ ^ Mark LaPierre Registered Linux user No #267004 https://linuxcounter.net/ ****

C7 basic install, HATE
I've got an old server, that I'm *trying* to rebuild from C6. Our regular key, with the kickstarts, etc, simply won't boot. Just a blank screen, and it never goes anywhere. So I'm trying to build it from a year-old regular installer. 100% of the time, the graphical screen is screwed. Resolution's so big that I cannot see the right-hand 10% or 15% of the screen. There

Import Nautilus file notes from C6 Gnome to C7 Mate
With C6 Gnome and C7 Mate you can right-click on a file icon, select Properties, select Notes, and write notes about your file. Does anyone know if those notes can be directly transferred between C6 Gnome and C7 Mate? I'm looking into upgrading someone's desktop machine to C7 and she has a lot of notes attached to her files that she doesn't want to lose. After doing a bit of

I figure it won't. Hope the experts can clarify. I'm still using C6 and want to C7 and really to C8. https://www.psychz.net/client/kb/en/upgrade-centos-6-to-centos-7.html

ExecShield in C6 or C7 kernels?
I'm trying to figure out if the stock kernels for Centos-6 and/or Centos-7 have ExecShield compiled in, and if so, if it is turned on by default. On my local C7 box I've been looking at/for indicators without a lot of success: /usr/lib/sysctl.d/00-system.conf. does not mention ExecShield at all. /proc/sys/kernel has no entries for exec_shield no mention of execshield in any of the files

Latest C6 kernel (2.6.32-696.30.1.el6) Panic on AMD processor on C7 KVM Host
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1586278 The above bug addresses? a kernel panic if you have a CentOS 7 KVM/QEMU/Libvirt host server running CentOS 6 VMs on an AMD processor machine. If you get this kernel panic: PANIC: early exception 0d rip 10:ffffffff810462b6 error 0 cr2 0 The fix is to change the CentOS 6 VM CPU Type from Opteron_G5 (the default) to Opteron_G3. This was

According to what I've read, Exec Shield is enabled in CentOS-6 and -7 by default. In CentOS-6, you can see it by: sysctl -a | grep -i shield
