1600x900 not available
I have no idea how.? All I can find is the Hi-DPi settings in
Gnome-Tweak but, of course, it only lets? me choose to scale from "1" to
"2" which makes things way too big.

Significance Help
I have a set of results where I have the eyesight power of both left and right eyes for each participant (e.g. 0.75, 0.5). Each participant then had to throw basketballs into a hoop and the number of successful throws was recorded.
I would like to do two things:
1. Test whether the eyesight power of the left and right eyes are significantly different from each other.
2. Test whether the number

Problem with external monitor on laptop
I am running opensuse Leap 15 on an Alienware laptop. When I plug a
monitor into the HDMI socket xrandr shows that is disconnected. How can
I get the system to send an event or something so it will look and see
that a monitor is there. If I cycle power on the computer with the
monitor connected both monitors come up connected. The command xrandr
--auto does not bring the disconnected monitor

Font Size for View()
Hello,
I am using Ubuntu 16.04, using the default (Unity) window manager. The font size using View() is way too small on a high dpi monitor. I already use scaling, but View() doesn't seem affected by that. Any suggestions for how I could tweak the font size here?
Best,
Wolfgang

Quadro 4000 with iiyama B2783QSU should be 2560x1440 but detected as 1920x1080.
Hi, Distribution: openSUSE 42.2 Beta, Kernel: 4.4. The box is a Dell
Precision T7500 with an nVidia Quadro 4000 card and a displayport
connected iiyama B2783QSU 2560x1440 monitor identified as DP-1.
Problem: The monitor is detected as 1920x1080 and not 2560x1440. See Xorg
log file at http://rogerprice.org/Xorg.0.log . There is no file

Where should my Xdefaults file be?
Apparently in order to get Japanese input working, I need to edit my
Xdefaults file.
By hunting on the web, I've read that I can create my own Xdefaults
file, but it's been very difficult to determine where I should create it.
I simply want to add the following line to this file:
*inputMethod kinput2
... so that Japanese input will be enabled. I want this setting to be
global for all

Font Size for View()
Thanks for the feedback. At least on Windows, the font size for View() appears to be controlled by the font size specified under the Rgui preferences / Rconsole. I thought that under Linux, it might be controlled by some .Xresources/.Xdefaults setting.
Ok, will wait for a bit but if nobody else has any suggestions, I'll ask on r-devel.
Best,
Wolfgang

samba.org has been revised!
As some of you might have noticed, the official Samba web site [1] has been
revised during the sambaXP conference [2]. The web design was revamped and
a new logo has been created. Some of the related pages (e.g. the Wiki [3])
have already been adapted to the new style as well.
Special thanks go to Blackbit [4] for creating the new design, to SerNet [5]
for sponsoring and to Stefan Metzmacher

I am trying to get my xterm window under gnome to open with large fonts,
with light green foreground and dark green background. I have the

unstable refresh rate
I think I may have updated the tv firmware between when it worked and
when it didn't.
I wonder it it has to do with bit depth.
I use lubuntu and it doesn't let me pick the bit depth so I don't know
what it using.

Apps segfaulting, problem with X?
Hello,
I'm having big trouble getting wine to work.
What I basically want to do is get steam to work, now it even fails to launch at all. It updates to 99% and then it segfaults. Other games has done this too (rollercoaster tycoon 2, starcraft 2). I followed the instructions on winehq, removed oriya/samyak fonts and I don't think I've done anything wrong - I've installed steam

where to report modesetting DDX bug?
Video and input drivers Subgroups and projects on gitlab does not list modesetting
DDX, presumably because it's not packaged separately from the server. Where's the
right place to report a modesetting DDX bug that manifests only on an NVidia GPU?
Directly against the server https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver?
Here are some particulars:
How can I tell whether this should be

xrandr HDMI-1 and DVI-D-1 disconnected - External monitor not detected
Hi List,
I'm stuck how to get a dual head monitor solution to work with Nouveau,
running openSUSE 13.1 on my hp8710w mobile workstation equipped with a
Nvidia graphical card. Beyond the built-in WUXGA display, an external
WQHD monitor is connected to the HDMI port on the graphical card and/or
to the dual link DVI-D on a hp docking station.
To compare with SLED11/Nvidia driver running in

Centos 5.7, I10 video, 1920x1080 monitor
I have a Centos 5.7 machine with Intel I10 video (built-in, I guess -- this is
one of those all-in-one mini terminal things) that I'm trying to put a new
1920x1080 monitor onto, without conspicuous success. Prior to this it's been
using a smaller monitor with no issues.
Try as I might I can't get the new monitor to run at its 1920x1080 resolution.
I just realized that I forgot to
