new ssd to play with
I grabbed a new SSD M4-CT064M4SSD2 from Crucial. I am disappointed. I stuck the unit in an Atom machine (zotac) with CentOS 6 on the disk. It really doesn't "feel" faster than the previous 5400 RPM drive that was in it. The SSD is giving me (in the zotac running centos 6): hdparm -t /dev/sda /dev/sda: Timing buffered disk reads: 298 MB in 3.00 seconds = 99.30 MB/sec The

SCSI block device name/multipath question
hi, i have a host with a LSI SAS 3108 RAID controller in JBOD mode with 4 SSD SATA disks. i installed oVirt node (= CentOS 7) on the first two disks configured as SW RAID 1 (in the oVirt node/CentOS installer). when i look at the device names in the running OS i get # lsscsi --scsi_id -g [0:0:0:0] disk ATA SAMSUNG MZ7LM480 204Q /dev/sda - /dev/sg0 [0:0:1:0] disk ATA

LVM hatred, was Re: /boot on a separate partition?

I'm working on infrastructure to make that more common and more consistent:

Disk near failure
Hi Yamaban, Great expalanation. I think you know how to buy an ssd. There is no doubt about samsung ssds quality vs other. My question about neutron was to get your opinion about this product. My doubt was about differences between slc, mlc and tlc. Mlc endurance respect tlc is better and I though that the mlc of neutron gives me more endurance respect to the tlc. From a technic point of view,

and nice. My concern is "bio_cgroup_id". It's provided only for bio_cgroup. In this summer, I tried to add swap_cgroup_id only for mem+swap controller but commenters said "please provide "id and lookup" in cgroup layer, it should be useful." And I agree them. (and postponed it ;) Could you try "id" in cgroup layer ? How do you think, Paul and others ?

lvm cache + qemu-kvm stops working after about 20GB of writes
Hello everyone, Anybody had the chance to test out this setup and reproduce the problem? I assumed it would be something that's used often these days and a solution would benefit a lot of users. If can be of any assistance please contact me. -- Met vriendelijke groet, Richard Landsman http://rimote.nl T: +31 (0)50 - 763 04 07 (ma-vr 9:00 tot 18:00) 24/7 bij storingen: +31 (0)6 - 4388

SSD drives are really fast running Dovecot
I just replaced my drives for Dovecot using Maildir format with a pair of Solid State Drives (SSD) in a raid 0 configuration. It's really really fast. Kind of expensive but it's like getting 20x the speed for 20x the price. I think the big gain is in the 0 seek time. Here's what I bought. Crucial RealSSD C300 CTFDDAC256MAG-1G1 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State
