Areca RAID controller on latest CentOS 7 (1708 i.e. RHEL 7.4) kernel 3.10.0-693.2.2.el7.x86_64
Is anyone running any Areca RAID controllers with the latest CentOS 7 kernel, 3.10.0-693.2.2.el7.x86_64? We recently updated (from 3.10.0-514.26.2.el7.x86_64), and we?ve started having lots of problems. To add to the confusion, there?s also a hardware problem (either with the controller or the backplane most likely) that we?re in the process of analyzing. Regardless, we have an ARC1883i, and

Kernel crash
Hi everyone,
I updated the kernel from 3.10.0-514.16.1.el7.x86_64
to 3.10.0-693.2.2.el7.x86_64 . While I was following these steps
https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops/Wireless/Broadcom (I knew that I
needed to compile again everything) in order to activate WIFI, the laptop
crashed doing
# depmod -a
# modprobe wl
Noting that I replaced (naively) # depmod $(uname -r) from the guide
(stupid

CentOS 7, new video card in server
Hi, folks,
I've got a new Dell R730 server. My users have two Tesla K-80's in it.
Then, they wanted to add video, for complicated reasons.
Anyway, there's the onboard VGA; I just put in a Quadro K600 (they
require DP, and this card offers that). Plug in a VGA monirot (the card
even comes with two adaptors, one from large DP to DVI-D, and one DVI-D to
VGA. (And according to the

CentOS 7, Xeon CPUs, not booting
This is happening on anything other than plain vanilla Dell servers. One
R730, with dual Tesla cards, one R420, with a fibre card for a RAID
device, it never switches root. All these systems have Xeons, not AMD
CPUs.
We've had this with every one of the 327 kernels. In addition, it seems to
happen also with the 229.20.1; the 229.14.1 has no such problem.

Problems with kernel-3.10.0-693.5.2.el7.x86_64
Everyone,
I have two desktop units with : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700 CPU @ 3.60GHz
that do not allow the login screen to appear after the update of :
kernel-3.10.0-693.5.2.el7.x86_64 and kernel-3.10.0-693.2.2.el7.x86_64
Both of these units worked properly with
kernel.x86_64 3.10.0-514.26.2.el7
I am not sufficiently familiar with grub to know if the problem is
related to grub or related to the

Sorry, this might be off-topic, but while reading up on the link you sent,
I've noticed the following sentence:
Use only absolute paths. Even if relative paths would appear to work, they
might just as well break some day.
Yet, all examples in the documentation use ~ which is a relative path.

C7: kernel-3.10.0-693.2.2, huh?
Ok... I just fully updated a user's machine. And got a kernel panic on
reboot. So, having run into this earlier this year, I tried to reinstall
the kernel.
yum reinstall kernel-3.10.0-693.2.2.el7.x86_64
Installed package kernel-3.10.0-693.2.2.el7.x86_64 (from updates) not
available.
Error: Nothing to do

GRUB, and how do I loathe thee
I just adore the install. Esp. of GRUB.
Does *anyone* who works on GRUB actually work in the real world, and not
only on brand new machines?
I just had happen at work what happened last fall on my home system: then,
I had /dev/hda, and was trying a clean install on a new SATA drive; right
now, I'm installing on a replacement disk on a server that has no CD/DVD
drive from a USB key. My
