VMWare Server doesn't like new CentOS installation?
I just got a nice, shiny new machine at work, a Core 2 Duo, on which I just finished installing CentOS 5.2 with a fair number of packages, SeaMonkey 1.1.10, Adobe Reader 8.0, Adobe Flash 9.0, mplayer, mplayerplug-in (both from rpmforge), and I think that was it. Then I went and got the latest VMWare Server, 1.0.7, from VMWare, pulled down their rpm, installed it, and ran vmware-config.pl, which

Success : clang/LLVM-built host kernel and clang-built VMware kernel modules for VMware Player 14.1.1 on host Ubuntu 17.10 x86_64
Hello All, As part of my clang/LLVM experiments and explorations with different clang-built kernel versions, I have tried to bring up other Linux/Ubuntu applications with their kernel modules also being clang-built. One such case has been with VMware Player 14.1.1. I am sharing this report for interested people that highlights my research and success in overcoming and solving the challenges in

vmware, host-only network can't browse??
Server: Linux 2.2.10 samba-2.0.5a-1 (rpm) Client: Win98 inside vmware1.0.2 using hostonly networking. Problem: 'Unable to browse the network' I have worked my way through the tests in DIAGNOSIS.txt, and all tests pass. If I run Test 9 "net use x: \\BIGSERVER\TMP" from a MS-DOS prompt, then I can see my linux /tmp directory in x:. BUT if I just log in to Windows

connecting vmware through tinc on host system (linux)
Hello, i'm using a debian etch box (2.6.18-5-686) with tinc 1.0.5 for connecting to my office LAN. On the same box there's a vmware virtual machine running (Windows 2k). Now i'd like to connect this virtual machine through the VPN, too. All my attempts did fail... The virtual machine runs with a "host only" network (vmnet1). On the linux side i tried to configure NAT

VMWare Workstation 14 on CentOS 7?
Hello, did anybody succeed in installing/updating to VMWare Workstation 14.0.0-6661328 on an updated CentOS 7 (kernel 4.9.54-203.el7.centos.x86_64)? Here it fails at building vmmon/vmnet modules. I couldn't find anything about this on the Internet.. WS seems to get less popular and unfortunately reproduces the same inability to install upon kernel updates, that drives me nut for years now.

I also uses sygate firewall on XP *but i set allow all for testing* Linux routes via NAT and it works fine (even DNS

ot: vlans and vmware
Does anyone have VLAN tagging working from within a guest on vmware-server? I'm running a centos 4.5 guest on a centos 5 host with vmware server 1.04and I've tried creating vlans using both the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts method and just doing it from the cli via vconfig. Either way appears to work, the OS creates the vlans, but I think vmware's network adapter must be eating the

Vmware Server on Centos 5.1
Hi all, I am running some Centos 5.0 x86_64 servers as host os for vmware server 1.0.3 on both Opteron and Xeon systems. They are all running fine and stable. But now I am in doubt to upgrade to 5.1. Has any one done that yet, upgraded his vmware hosts with Centos/RHEL 5.0 to 5.1 ? tia + best regards, matthias

VMware images
Can someone please clarify the status of minimal install images of Centos 5 for VMware? I see the work that 'tru' did, but it is still at 5 (not 5.1). Is that the best image available (just run yum update), or what about the minimal image listed on the VMware Virtual Appliance site? Ted Miller Indiana, USA

NT Login with ipchains
Hello David, After some experiments and discussions I came to the following result concerning private NT-Box connecting to a LAN via ipchains and using all NETBIOS services (incl. domain-logon): Cross-subnet browsing with NETBIOS could only be done by a local master browser in the private net. I first thought of using Samba on the Linux router for that. But the Samba service would have to use
