Depsolving errors whilst upgrading Centos 5.6 -> 5.7
I have a dedicated server from 1&1 (http://1and1.co.uk/). A 'yum list updates' today showed me that the 5.7 update was available (it's probably been there for a while, I don't check that often). But running 'yum update' gives the following error: Running rpm_check_debug ERROR with rpm_check_debug vs depsolve: kernel(rhel5_fs_proc_ga) is needed by (installed)

Centos 7 Server Forgets IPv6 Address On Reboot
My Centos 7 server has started to forget its IPv6 address on a reboot. This causes problems with services being unable to start up. It's easy enough to fix each time (ip addr add ...), but it would be nice to be able to convince it to retain that information. Presumably, there's a file somewhere under /etc/sysconfig that should contain this information - does anyone know where it should

Switching to php53
I have a Centos 5.6 server which is using the default php packages. These currently contain PHP 5.1.6. My main use of PHP on the server is to support an installation of WordPress. I currently had WP 3.1.2 installed, but the WP developers have announced that from WP 3.2 they will only support PHP 5. and greater. So I investigated and found that the Centos repo contains a series of php53 packages.

I want to blog!
This isn''t Rails or Ruby related, but I just need some advice and thought I''d ask the bright individuals here. I want to start my own blog but I''m not sure where to begin. I don''t want to get a blogger account because I want to have my own domain. Blogger also doesn''t have many features. My hosting service is 1AND1 so it supports php, cgi and mysql.

Problem Making Tarballs
I have a CentOS virtual private server from 1and1.com If I checkout or pull something from a repository, it will contain an autogen.sh file Running this and then configure seems to work. However, when I run make I get a lot of error messages from libtool saying that such and such a command could not be found on some line or that there is a syntax error. This happens even with the latest

Setup a devel environment for perl modules
Hi all, This is an interesting thread: http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/2014-April/141871.html about the problems you can find building perl modules for CentOS releases (new or old). I agree with John R. Pierce: cpan is very very bad tool ( in fact, I hate it) to build perl modules for CentOS systems, breaks all other perl modules. I need to use several perl modules in several

Trouble with Mailman
I have set up Mailman on a virtual private server from 1and1 running Centos, though I can't tell which version. The system has 2 GB of memory. Mailman is receiving posts, but it is not sending them out to everybody. It is also getting some out-of-memory errors. The server is also runing Plesk for Web hosting. Something on the server is leaking memory. When first booted it has nearly 1.5

Centos 4 and cgiemail
I am running Centos 4 and want to run cgiemail in a directory under the web application. The setting of the "value" property in the <form> is tricky, but I have the web application running on other servers without a problem. On my server I get the error that it cannot find the file pointed to by the value in the <form>. My question is whether or not I need to do

remove newlines / perl /concise example
Thanks for the previous tips and suggestions. Here's a more concise example: Input file: <aaaa> <bbbb> <cccc> <dddd> I want everything on one line, i.e., remove all newlines. Like so: <aaaa><bbbb><cccc><dddd> Simple perl code: #!/usr/bin/env perl # Remove newlines from a file in two ways: # (1) Just "chomp" them; # (2) Replace

Perl Trouble
I am running several CentOS 5.2 servers with similar configuration. On all of them I received the following error when using a certain perl module: > Base class package "Class::Accessor::Fast" is empty. > (Perhaps you need to 'use' the module which defines that package > first.) On most of the servers installing Class::Accessor::Fast manually via CPAN shell has

scripting CPAN installs
Hey folks, Maybe there is a Perl/CPAN list that is a better place to ask this? If so, maybe someone can point me to it. Anyway, I want to be able to script the installation of a bunch of CPAN modules, and the first basic problem I am coming up against is that the "cpan" command seems to always return 0 regardless of whether or not the install completed. Google does not bring up a

if you install cgi programs from rpm, how to configure for actual use in /var/www/html ?
In Centos 5.5, I've had this same experience over and over. I have no trouble installing CGI programs the old fashioned way (untar into /var/www/html and configure), but don't like un-rpm managed files floating about. So I can install, for example, phpMyAdmin, from EPEL. That phpMyAdmin RPM drops files into a bunch of locations, the php files are under /usr/share/phpMysql and then

Hello, I have to load a syslinux floppy image from grub using memdisk, it works like: grub - memdisk -> linux floppy image. the linux floppy image is using syslinux as linux bootloader. before syslinux 3.02, it works fine. However if syslinux >=3.05 it doesn't works. After vmlinuz and initrd loaded , before boot linux kernel, system hangs. Or, is it possible to run
