Acroread9 crash in CentOS7
Hello,
I'm getting a crash with acroread on my CentOS7 (AdobeReader_enu-9.5.5-1.i486).
I install the official rpms from ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/unix/,
tried 9.5.5, and former v9, v8, v7.
/usr/bin/acroread loads well, but when you click a menu, bang. Same if
you start acroread w/ a .pdf filename in parameter, the window opens up
then crashes.
I modified the acroread script to

VMWare Workstation 14 on CentOS7
Hello there,
I'm encountering blocking issues with VMWare Workstation v14/v12 on
CentOS 7.
The issue is that any Linux guestsystem will get network-disconnected
after a short while. I tried w/ brand new guest installs, guests coming
from a v12 WS. Tried different guest network settings, I always get
disconnected. I found several cases like this on the Web, but couldn't
see any working

Updating firefox after a long time yum-excluded it and having installed it from .rpm
Hello,
I've been stuck for a while with an old version of firefox, installed
from local .rpm (I know.. I should have downgraded using yum, instead)
and added a exclude=firefox to the relevant .repo file. I did that
after a yum-update has brought firefox 52+, and all add-ons were
deprecated because of their new add-on scheme.
Today that all the add-ons I need are available, I've tried

Support for AdobeReader on Linux ended more than 4 years ago. It would
be better to use evince, atril or okular.

What RH-like on a Dell XPS 15 (9590)?
Hello there,
I've just got a Dell XPS 15 (9590) at work and need to set up a stable
GNU/Linux system on it. I thought of CentOS7, but.. obviously its
kernel can't run on this hardware.
What would you recommend? Waiting for CentOS8 is not an option unless
it's a question of few weeks. Are there respins of the CentOS7 DVDs w/
more top-recent kernels? I'm know of Fedora 26 or

Unfortunately, this is only for RHEL/CentOS 7, but it can also be found at:

[OT] linux on a PPC (mac mini)
Hello there,
complete off-topic, sorry about this, but my former idea was to install
a CentOS on an old mac mini (PPC!). Disappointed to see that PowerPC is
not a supported architecture and that non ARM or Intel architecture are
not managed by recent distros.. :-(.
Searching the web, I see very few possibilities to install a recent (I
need gnome2) GNU/Linux distro on such hardware. I gave Linux

Red Hat Developer Toolset 3 for CentOS6?
Hi all,
I could find the 1.1 and 2 repos gently provided by Tru Huynh, but quid
of a v3 of the toolset?
I've just found that Qt 5.4 requires what's shipped in this v3 (gcc
4.9.1, binutils 2.24) and would prefer installing those from a repo. If
not, the sources will rule.
Any hint?
Regards,

which Latitude? they've probably made 100 different laptops over the
last couple decades branded 'Latitude'.
I bet my wife's new Latitude 15 5000 would be problematic, it uses USB
C/Thunderport for its docking station which has 2 additional video
adapters in it. She's even having some issues

Write to USB pendrives horribly slow
Hello there,
since I installed CentOS6 few months ago (kept up-to-date using yum),
I'm facing very poor performances when writing to USB pendrives.
The hardware: a Dell Latitude E6500 laptop (Intel Core Duo P8600
@2.40Ghz), 4Go RAM + 4Go swap, several USB2 pendrives of various brands
(less than old, all formatted as vfat).
When I perform a copy (with cp or midnight commander, copying big
