[OT]multi-master DNS
Bind does not have a method to do multi-master replication. All updates must be done via an intermediary service (database).
In our case, we've used containers and Consul for providing a highly available DNS service. A container will fire up and race for the master lock. It will dump the contents of the database into its named configurations and assuming it has the lock will assume the IP

audio streaming points different with VRRP
Hi!I've a question:
I've 2 asterisk, I want pull the ethernet wire and then reconnect it after 5
second, using the VRRP protocol, where must I set the IP for the
connection goes on the second asterisk?
I want this:
I call to asterisk1, then I pull the ethernet wire down, vrrp makes up the
other asterisk but not the audio streaming...the callers are always pointed

ices cvs crashing
Well, hi folks: I am still having this problem with ices crashing
regularly. I have upgraded to todays cvs for ices and icecast hoping
that would take care of it but no such luck. I am not sure just what
is going on. It seems to happen fairly often which is not exactly
making my listeners happy. I will include the relevant portion of the
ices.log below. I would appreciate any suggestions

shorewall restart with keepalived (redundant firewalls)
Hello,
First , thanks to Tom for it''s great job ! Netfilter is really easy
and powerfull with shorewall.
So, I have configured two firewalls whith shorewall using keepalived
for the redundant VRRP stuff.
FW-a is MASTER and FW-b is BACKUP.
Everything works correctly and FW-b upgrade to MASTER when FW-a is
down or disconnected. FW-b downgrade to BACKUP when FW-a comes back.

change of calls control with VRRP protocol
Hi! I' ve this problem:
I've 2 asterisks box, asterisk11 and asterisk12, and one wi_fi phone.
I call from wi_fi to a X-lite phone on a windows xp.I've setuped the X-lite
to my vrrp IP
(vrid IP) and the call is ok, I call from the wi_fi to X-lite and from the
X-lite to wi_fi.
In asterisk panell is all ok, and I listen the voice to the xp and in the
wi_fi phone.
asterisk12 is my master.

failover with conntrackd
Hi.
Is anyone using conntrack-tools to implement gateway failover on a
network with windows clients?
I set it up with ucarp and keepalived, and found that gratuitous ARP
doesn''t always seem to update the cache on Windows machines. It works
the first time, but if a second failover happens, the client continues
to send stuff to the wrong MAC address. Linux machines work fine.

Best setup for redundant routers.
I am setting up 2 Vyatta routers that will serve as redundant failover
core routers out to the backbone of our ISP. They will be serving for
routing between other branches and the ISP and bandwidth management.
I am trying to differentiate between the plethora of information about
having redundant, automatic failover routers and pretty much decided on
VRRP for the IP address failover mechanism.

Mangesieve security question
Hello,
I have a dovecot 2.2.6 on a Linux platform. I have configured
manageseive extension.
I have opened the manageseive port (4190) to entire world. (since I need
my thunderbird and other clients to create seive scripts).
I just wanted to know if it is ok to open that port to everyone, and get
some feedback on some security measures specific to manageseive.
-Thanks in advance

Multiple A Records for IMAP service
Hello All,
I have a quick question.
I have 2 MX servers each with a Dovecot Instances (2.2.6). These 2
Dovecot Instances are replicated by using Dsync... All works well.
The questions is, Can I have 2 A records for my imap.mydomain.tld? The
Idea being, if for any reason, one of the Dovecot IMAP instances are
unreachable, the client can connect to the other Instance. (this is
purely a fail

CentOS 6 dhcpd custom log issues
Hi all,
I've got an issue with C6's dhcpd custom logging that I cannot figure out.
Hopefully someone has an idea, or has seen a similar issue. We have dhcpd
logging to /var/log/messages a custom header (DHCPUSER:) with MAC, IP and
Circuit-ID.
I'll not bore you with the guts, so here's the beginning of that line in
dhcpd.conf:
if exists agent.circuit-id

gateway failover with linux
Hi.
I''m wondering if there''s a good way to configure a Linux firewall box to
failover to a single backup server, while preserving connection state.
This question has been asked before, but the latest reference I can find
is from 2004, at which time Linux had no equivalent of OpenBSD''s pfsync,
though Harald was said to be working on one.
Did anything come of those

Kickstart ksdevice question
This should be easy to answer (I hope).? We routinely kickstart boxes to
use for managing our customers RADIUS/DHCP configurations (along with
other things).? We've had a C7 kickstart in place since I built one in
May and are finally starting to roll it out for new installations.? But,
I'm curious as to what ksdevice= actually does.
With the C6 we routinely used ksdevice=eth0 since we

Okay, so it looks like I can simply change ksdevice=eth0? to
bootdev=eth0, correct?
