Update only of security vulnerabilities?
Hi All :)
What is the best way to get a list of available security updates?
I found several commands for that:
1) yum updateinfo list updates -q --security
2) yum list-security --security -q
3) yum --security check-update -q
Based on the sample output below I think I can use any of the three with
some awk to get a list of packages.
yum updateinfo list updates -q --security

dnf and failing epel
hi everyone,
I use dnf but one epel fails in a peculiar way:
$ dnf repolist
Failed to open:
/var/cache/dnf/x86_64/7/x86_64/7/epel/repodata/8415cbb16f52517f34e3edac12a97c9893117f7b9de6cb22fc086048febd1c60-updateinfo.xml.bz2.
that file is there, so I tampered with perms & fcontext but
to no avail. dnf clean does remove it but on the first
contact to epel repo it fails again.
Do you see it

Problems with the epel GPG key
I just went to install fail2ban, and it kept failing, complaining about
the EPEL GPG key. It was installed... and yum worked, once I did
ln -s /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-EPEL-6 /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-EPEL
Small problem there....

yum --security check-update
Hi all,
Does anyone know why when I run the following command, I get thousands of
packages in the output, saying they've been excluded?

rpmforge vs epel
I've been informed that rpmforge and epel do
not play well together and that if I use both,
epel should have the higher (lower numbered) priority.
Alas I had it the other way around.
rpmforge messed up my effort to get audacity.
I no longer need audacity,
but would like to fix the situation before some other problem crops up.
Would fixing the priorities and telling yum to

Does the use of yum priorities take care of this concern?

CentOS repo issue
I just built these servers, and the other admin added some more packages,
then we moved them into the datacenter.
I see errors from a cron job,

Do you happen to know of somewhere other than rpmforge where I can find
hexedit and gqview for el6 ? Epel has them for el5, but not el6.
Fortunately, installing them from rpmforge didn't drag along any
dependencies.

yum update info output
Hi all,
when I check for updates with yum, it gives me a list of packages, with some additional info, e.g.
--> systemd-sysv-219-42.el7_4.1.x86_64 from @updates removed (updateinfo)
--> systemd-sysv-219-42.el7_4.4.x86_64 from updates removed (updateinfo)
yum info will tell me that I have 4.1 of this package installed, and that 4.4 is available - from the
repo updates.
What is the

"Not using downloaded epel/repomd.xml"
Hi,
I'm regularly getting spammed by my own servers, with the following message:
/etc/cron.hourly/0yum-hourly.cron:
Not using downloaded epel/repomd.xml because it is older than what we have:
Current : Sat Sep 12 19:05:04 2020
Downloaded: Thu Sep 10 19:12:19 2020
How can I make this nonsense stop?
Cheers,
Niki
