Question re: CentOS-6.0, KVM, and /dev/sr0
I am experimenting with KVM and I wish to create a virtual machine image in a logical volume. I can create the new lv without problem but when I go to format its file system then I get these warnings: Warning: WARNING: the kernel failed to re-read the partition table on /dev/sda (Device or resource busy). As a result, it may not reflect all of your changes until after reboot. Warning: Unable to

I would like to burn the cd-rom iso's of CentOS-5.0 on my desktop machine, which is running CentOS-4.5. Is there a site or other reference that can provide me with a detailed, hand held, step-by-step, blow-by-blow description on how to do this for my installation? problems with burning i386 centos 6 dvd
Hey guys, Thanks a lot for the CentOS 6 distro. I am having trouble burning the i386 dvds. I tried on a RHEL 6 deskop and also a CentOS 5 laptop. The command I am running on both systems is this: growisofs -dvd-compat -speed=4 -Z /dev/sr0=/home/gsgatlin/CentOS-6.0-i386-bin-DVD/CentOS-6.0-i386-bin-DVD.iso The error I am seeing is: :-( /dev/sr0: 2295104 blocks are free, 2297586 to be written!

Installing a gnome-desktop on CENTOS-6.3 following minimal system install.
I am still trying without much success to get a desktop on my minimal + virtualization install of a CentOS-6.3 kvm host. When I run startx I get a desktop but other than the icons for computer, home and trash there is nothing displayed. I can right click the mouse and from there I can open a terminal window and creat a folder on the desktop but I have no title bar and no status bar. There are

Making a bootable Win7 DVD from an ISO
I would like to create a bootable DVD containing Win7 from an official Microsoft ISO that I have on a CentOS-6.5 box. Is this even possible? If so then how is it done using CentOS? If I must create a Win7 repair disk on a Windows machine then this will be possible, but somewhat logistically challenging. I would much rather just get it done with the tools I have to hand. -- ***

I have used this device on this host to created CDs in the past but this is my first attempt at creating a dvd. When I put a blank DVD-R media in the drive then I see a desktop icon for "CD-ROM Disc" created. When I open the bittorent folder and click on the iso image

ext3 partition on LVM lost all data
Hello Gentlemen, I would like to ask a question about an issue I have with the Centos 6.3 installation. I have installed a Centos 6.3 on a server we used before with 5.4 on Friday. I have created a KS file to let me connect to the server via VNC and have all repos and packages preconfigured. I only needed to partition the hard drive using VNC. During the partition process I selected which

DVD-RAM writer software for CentOS4
Firstly, let me thank all of the individuals who assisted me in various matters regarding find, tar and ssh last week. Your contributions were truly invaluable and I learned a great deal thereby. The reason for that brief flurry of activity was an administrative and technical move to store-to-disc from store-to-tape for our server backups. We presently use a mix of store to disc on

Bug#595531: xen-utils-common: boot="d" does not boot from CD (documentation issue?)
Package: xen-utils-common Version: 4.0.0-1 Severity: normal This is an offshoot of Bug#588888, but is really a separate issue. It appears that with hvmloader, the disk device names presented to the vm must by from a specific set that hvmloader knows how to emulate. Names like hd[a-c] and sd[a-c] work, but sr0 does not. While this makes sense, when you think about what hvmloader is doing, it is

reconfigure centos-6.9 host to ignore missing nic
I need to work on a host which has been offline and powered down for some time. I has CentOS-6.9 installed. At some point it had two nics, one on the motherboard (still present and working) and one as an expansion card. When booted the console displays: pciehp 0000:00:1c:0:pcie04: Failed to check link status repeatedly. How do I tell the host to ignore the missing nic or remove it from the
