net-snmp-5.5-27.el6.i686
Hello, Can someone explain why I don't get a timeout when I use the community string "public" even if I don't have it defined in my snmpd.conf file. It doesn't return data but it also doesn't timeout. See example below. ... rocommunity nobody 127.0.0.1 ... [root at L703108 pgsql]# snmpwalk -v 1 -c public 127.0.0.1 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1 ifMIB [root at L703108 pgsql]#

SNMP and OID/MIB/MRTG
Hi all. I am having an issue and quite frankly would rather not spend the entire next two days learning the entire snmp program. I am hoping someone out there has used MRTG and SNMP to make it work. I have both installed. Single server, polling itself. Question 1- does snmpd have to run as a daemon, or only run once so I can get OID and MIBs from it? Question 2- does anyone know the command

CentOS/SNMP update breaks MRTG?
I got itchy fingers over the weekend and decided to fix what wasn't broken and upgraded one of the older servers from Centos 5.2 to Centos 5.3. Following the recommended process of updating glibc and such before the rest, it appeared to work perfectly and rebooted without problem. However, MRTG 2.15.2 started complaining about unexpected values. I installed/updated both MRTG (2.16.2) and

snmpd log messages
I updated to CentOS 4.5 yesterday and now I am finding the snmpd daemon is logging reams and reams of these messages: May 20 10:40:03 mx01 snmpd[2572]: Connection from - 127.0.0.1 May 20 10:40:03 mx01 snmpd[2572]: transport socket = 12 Is there a way to turn off this useless logging? I am getting these every 5 minutes (every time MRTG updates my MailScanner statistics). So far what I tried

Recommendation On Ping And Alert Tool
A bit off topic, but I keep looking for an answer to this question and coming up with nothing... so I thought I would go to the gurus. :-) Can anyone recommend a good package for pinging other devices and sending an email/alert when they go down? I'm aware of all kinds of more complex things with GUIs and a zillion other bells and whistles we aren't looking for, but we just want a simple

PXE install in a boot on san with LVM environment, fails after reboot
Hello, I need to automate installation of CentOS 7.0 using PXE and kickstart. My server is diskless, I'm installing CentOS on a 25GB LUN on a FC SAN with 4 paths. This LUN is the only one accessible by the server. Anaconda processes successfully the installation. But on reboot, I get stuck on a prompt after BIOS. I think I have an issue with storage configuration / bootloader

how do I set the listening IP on snmpd?
Hi, Does anyone know if it''s possible to set a listening IP on snmpd? On a CentOS 5.2 domU, it listens on 0.0.0.0 (effectively every IP on the machine), root@vps:[/]$ netstat -an | grep 161 udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:161 0.0.0.0:* Yet, on a Debian 4.0 domU, it listens on 127.0.0.1. sh-2.05b# netstat -an |grep 161 udp 0 0 127.0.0.1:161

CentOS 6.0 chkconfig strange behavior
Hi, I'm noticing some strangeness with chkconfig on CentOS 6.0 and was looking for a bit of advice. It appears that chkconfig is re sequencing or re ordering the start priority of various services when turning on a service using chkconfig. Example is the network service. Under normal circumstances network is set to start at S10. However when I add something like snmpd and invoke chkconfig

ipac/iptables + mrtg accounting
i''ve installed mrtg to make graphics of the trafic from the interfece throw the snmpd, and the same with ipac witch put iptables accounting rules colect them and store, and gets the output, but the "problem" is that ipac graphics are 3 times smaller that the snmpd. Why??? i did catch all the trafic with ipac so no problem here, and i know that ipac/iptables is at level 3, and
