By default, CentOS 7 will use postfix as MTA. That was an excellent decision I welcomed the day RedHat made it. Beginning with my firat RedHat (it was somewhere around RedHat 5 IIRC) I always have been replacing venerable

What makes Postfix superior in fighting spam? How do I integrate MIMEDefang, SpamAssassin, and ClamAV with Postfix? Are there migration guides for moving one's Sendmail anti-spam and AV

CentOS 5 file system read only issue
Hello Everyone, We are using CentOS 5 system for certain application. Those are VM guests running in VMware. There is datastore issue occasionally, causing all file systems becoming read only file systems. So application stop working, and opened files cannot be written either. We cannot even ssh login to the system. Typically we had to power cycle the VM. We are trying to add reliability to the

Sendmail with exchange
I am using Asterisk to send Voicemail out as Email. I am running into a problem I believe to be caused by the exchange server requiring SMTP authentication. I cannot get the sys admin's to turn it off. Does anyone know enough about sendmail to help me. I am assuming that the default mail client is sendmail. It will also send to other non-SMTP authenticated servers. Your help is much

Dovecot Virtual Users with Sendmail
I'm trying to get Dovecot working with Virtual Users and Sendmail on OpenIndiana 151a7. OpenIndiana is the Open Source continuation of OpenSolaris after Oracle tried to kill it off a couple of years ago shortly after acquiring Sun Microsystems. I'm not sure if this is so much a Dovecot problem, as much of a Sendmail problem. I thought this would probably be a better list to start with,

close open relay
hi all, running centos 4.7 i686. I seem to have an o pen r elay sendmail server. How do I close it? I have the STRAIGHT centos install sendmail.mc file. Only thing I changed was: dnl DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Port=smtp,Addr=127.0.0.1, Name=MTA')dnl so as to allow incoming email and not just localhost. however this seems to relay everyone. I looked at http://www.sendmail.org/tips/relaying but it

Q's about switching from sendmail to postfix
Running CentOS 4.2 with all updates. I've been using sendmail for my MTA since forever. I've grown used to it and I can make it do what I want it to. However (there's always a catch, isn't there)... Lately it seems that some mail is being lost. I've noticed some instances when a message was sent to myself and others which I will only see if someone replies back to

mount the wrong device after system recovery
Hi, I am recovering a CentOS 5.4 system. I've copied all partitions into the recovery system. I've installed grub boot loader. However, the original system is using /dev/sdb1 for root (/), while the recovery system is using LVM (/dev/vg0/lv1) for root (/). When recovery system boots, I got the panic error: * Mounting /dev/sdb1 on /sysroot * Mount: mounting

Sendmail, mailertable and DNS weirdness.
Guys, I've had a weird problem with Sendmail misbehaving in a way I don't really understand. I've worked round the problem but I'd like to understand what was going on. The MX for one of our domains, blah.com, pointed at an internal Exchange server. Mail relayed to a Sendmail MailScanner which then delivered to Exchange for this domain. The domain expired leading to all its mail

Sendmail using SMTP authorization
Hi - OK not really an Asterisk question but it is affecting one of my favorite features - emailing voice mail! I've posted on some Linux forums and sendmail.org but no response so I'm hoping someone will take pity on me ;-) My ISP requires SMTP authorization and I'm having a heck of a time getting it to work. I've included the following below: Asterisk 1.4.21 CentOS 5 Sendmail

sendmail and spamassassin
I have a problem getting spamd and sendmail (both stock CentOS4 rpms) to work together on a couple of smtp relay machines. This is clearly a configuration issue and no doubt revolves around my lack of comprehension of how this is to work. Basically, the setup consists of two frontend public smtp transports that redirect all email through a firewall to an internal imap server for final

Sendmail
I know this is a "generic" question, but fully CentOS related. I attempted to set up i386 v.4.1 on my primary computer at the co-located site, and thought I had everything squared away till I discovered the machine was refusing mail connections. AFIK, I had no firewall or other objects blocking port 25. It has been my experience that with most arch's and versions where sendmail is

sendmail delay in presenting banner
I am using a Centos 6.5 machine as a mail server with sendmail as the MTA. I have a problem with a delay of sendmail presenting its banner so that the process of accepting e-mail can begin. The log files demonstrate as much as a 2 minute delay between the connection and the banner presentation. #telnet Mail.DOMAIN.com 25 Connected to mail. Escape character is '^]'. < two minute

spam control
Gents, I have added the following to /etc/mail/sendmail.mc and rebuilt it trying to control spam. I still get about 25 spam messages a day. Is there something else that can help control spam?
