Xorg problem
I updated to Centos 6.8. Every thing is working, except Xorg does not startup. When I look at top, it seems that Xorg keeps trying but not succeeding to start. Any idea what the problem might be? Thanks Shoshana Rosenthal srosenthal at cfa.harvard.edu

Xorg problem
Thanks for responding. I really don't know why I have the problem my computer is a Dell computer with the standard parts. I am not sure that your fix will work for me. I am using the computer remotely and am still looking for a solution. mach64 driver, latest update in CentOS 6.8, symbol lookup error - workaround
> This is a known issue: >https://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=58168 >I would recommend filing a bug with Red Hat to have them fix it. I am going to see if I can find someone in the organization with a Red Hat account to open the bug. In the meantime, I came up with a workaround. I wanted to see if I could role the updates back to CentOS 6.7 since the system was 6.7

Need help
I am also using CentOS, but to get a bug fixed, you have to go upstream to RedHat. I think John Pierce is right, I had to change my run level to get the alternate consoles to work. I still have the machine at run level 3 hoping that a bug fix lets me go back to run level 5. Other machines work fine, just the 2 with the MACH64 video on the motherboard will no longer run X. Need help
Try another console like ALT-F2. See if you have a black screen login prompt. I opened a bug with RedHat for a system that when I went from 6.7 to 6.8 booted but would not start the X server. Problem was in the MACH64 driver. It is missing an external symbol that the X server requires. -----Original Message----- From: CentOS [mailto:centos-bounces at centos.org] On Behalf Of Leroy Tennison

Xorg problem
I was also successful with 7 computers, however they run version 6.7. For some reason this one computer upgraded to 6.8 and Xorg does not work. I also changed to 3 different terminals and it did not help. I am not giving up yet. CentOS 5 Beta - Yum Updates?
I am new to CentOS. I mostly use Fedora Core. I installed the CentOS 5 Beta on a test machine from the DVD. I configured it with both KDE and Gnome. I am using the default YUM configurtion which loaded with the DVD. Unlike FC7T2, CentOS 5 Beta does not seem to pick up Yum updates. Is this by design or do I need to add repos to my /etc/yum.repos.d? Thanks for any suggestions Bob Styma

Unresolved references in libnetsnmpagent.so
Hi, I am running an up to date centos5.9 system. The package, net-snmp-devel-5.3.2.2-20.el5 Contains among oteher things: /usr/lib/libnetsnmpagent.so When I link with this library (-lnetsnmpagent), I get a bunch of unresolved references.: My Google searches has not given me hints to where the C to Perl library exists. I would guess that yum would have loaded the correct package as a

Can I force yum to only use http.
Our outsourced IT department has decided to use white listing on the firewalls for outbound ftp. I was given a list of sites our lab had accessed via ftp and eventually tracked them down to Linux machines running yum. They are all CentOS 5 or 6 with a smattering of 7. It is impractical to list all the possibilities since they change on a regular basis. Also any 3rd party repos we need are
