Problem with mdadm, raid1 and automatically adds any disk to raid
Hi. CENTOS 7.6.1810, fresh install - use this as a base to create/upgrade new/old machines. I was trying to setup two disks as a RAID1 array, using these lines mdadm --create --verbose /dev/md0 --level=0 --raid-devices=2 /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdc1 mdadm --create --verbose /dev/md1 --level=0 --raid-devices=2 /dev/sdb2 /dev/sdc2 mdadm --create --verbose /dev/md2 --level=0 --raid-devices=2

software raid - better management advice needed
Hi, I've used mdadm for years now to manage software raids. The task of using fdisk to first create partitions on a spare drive sitting on a shelf (raid 0 were my 1st of 2 drives failed) is kind of bugging me now. After using fdisk to create the same partition layout on the new drive as is on the existing drive and then using mdadm to finish every thing up is a little tedious. Any

Cannot re-make a software raid pair
Apologies if you get this twice - the first one didn't seem to make it... Hi Guys, I have just replaced a faulty Max...woah, wait...this one's a Seagate... IDE hard disk but I cannot remake the software raid pair. The currently running disk is hda and I am trying to add back hdg - both are master drives on separate controllers. I have run fdisk on hdg and created the same partition

performance lost in using a software raid array with only 1 disk
Is there any performance lost in using a software raid array with only 1 disk? I was wanting to use the mdadm monitoring tools to monitor the machines single disk drive for failures and such. Is there any performance hit for such a setup? Some machines have RAID some machines dont (for me) and I was thinking about a common setup. Also then if I want in the future I can actually just add the

The /proc/mdstat looks fine. md0 : active raid1 sdb1[1] sda1[0] X blocks [2/2] [UU] however /var/log/messages says: smartd[3392] Device /dev/sda 20 offline uncorrectable sectors The machine is running fine.. raid array looks good - what is up with smartd? THanks, Jerry

Software RAID on Centos 4 - new issue
OK, I have managed to get software RAID 1 running on my wonderful Proliant server but now have two challenges: 1) Fresh after an OS install and reboot, the RAID array starts to do its stuff but straight away (as part of the boot messages) I am told that the second disk is 'not ready for command' and the system hangs as soon as resyncing starts. I think this is fixed by adding an hdparm

hard drive failing in linux raid
Hello all. I have a server with a linux software raid1 setup between two drives of the same model....one hard drive as primary ide master and second hard drive as secondary master. Now primary master hard drive is displaying a lot of SMART errors so I would like to remove it and replace with another drive....different brand but same size. Partitions are /dev/md0 till /dev/md5. I think I know what

more software raid questions
hi all! back in Aug several of you assisted me in solving a problem where one of my drives had dropped out of (or been kicked out of) the raid1 array. something vaguely similar appears to have happened just a few mins ago, upon rebooting after a small update. I received four emails like this, one for /dev/md0, one for /dev/md1, one for /dev/md125 and one for /dev/md126: Subject: DegradedArray

Convert "bare partition" to RAID1 / mdadm?
I have a large disk full of data that I'd like to upgrade to SW RAID 1 with a minimum of downtime. Taking it offline for a day or more to rsync all the files over is a non-starter. Since I've mounted SW RAID1 drives directly with "mount -t ext3 /dev/sdX" it would seem possible to flip the process around, perhaps change the partition type with fdisk or parted, and remount as

Centos 4 software raid issue
i need to remove a software raid 1 form my system. I have yet to find a way that applies to 2.6x kernels. I know the information is out there. Would anyone care to give me a pointer? Software RAID1 Failure Help
I am running software RAID1 on a somewhat critical server. Today I noticed one drive is giving errors. Good thing I had RAID. I planned on upgrading this server in next month or so. Just wandering if there was an easy way to fix this to avoid rushing the upgrade? Having a single drive is slowing down reads as well, I think. Thanks. Software RAID CentOS4
Hi, I have a system with two IDE controllers running RAID1. As a test I powered down, removed one drive (hdc), and powered back up. System came up fine, so powered down installed a new drive (hdc) And powered back up. /proc/mdstat indicatd RAID1 active with hda only. I thought it would Auto add the new hdc drive... Also when I removed the new drive and added The original hdc, the swap partitions

Major problem with software raid
Ok, this is the case: I've got two raid-5 arrays with software raid, both with three disks. Setup: md0 has hdb2, hdd1 and sda1 md1 has hdb5, hdd3 and sda3 Tonight, the system lost power due to a power spike. The result was a reboot where it attempted to fix the raid, but it didn't exactly work. I have now booted a live CD and using utilities there. It seems the checksum value is

question on software raid-1
I have a system that is RAID -1 configured as /dev/md0 is /dev/hda1 /dev/hdb1 /dev/md1 is /dev/hdb3 /dev/hdb3 it seems as though /dev/hda has failed.... I have another disk (identical model) that I can replace hda with. I know about the commands fdisk to repartion and raidhotadd /dev/md0 /dev/hda1 and raidhotadd /dev/md1 /dev/hda3 (to be ran after the system boots). BUT... how do I now get

recover data from linear raid
Hello, I had a scientific linux 3.0.4 system (rhel compatible), with 3 ide disks, one for / and two others in linear raid (250 gb and 300 gb each). This system was obsoleted so i move the raid disks to a new scientific linux 3.0.7 installation. However, the raid array was not detected ( I put the disks on the same channels and same master/lsave setup as in the previous setup). In fact
