centos 5.4, firefox and adobereader plugin, disabled input fields
Hello,
we are using firefox-3.0.15 from the CentOS-Repository and the
adobereader plugin from the adobe-repository. We have a curious problem
with adobereader-plugin in firefox.
When a pdf document is displayed via the plugin, i.e. within a tab in
firefox, all input fields are disabled. I cannot enter a search string
or fill in fields. The cursor and page up/down keys are also disabled.
But when

Acroread9 crash in CentOS7
Hello,
I'm getting a crash with acroread on my CentOS7 (AdobeReader_enu-9.5.5-1.i486).
I install the official rpms from ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/unix/,
tried 9.5.5, and former v9, v8, v7.
/usr/bin/acroread loads well, but when you click a menu, bang. Same if
you start acroread w/ a .pdf filename in parameter, the window opens up
then crashes.
I modified the acroread script to

AdobeReader on 64-bit PCLOS--how?
Some days ago I queried the list about getting LightScribe and
AdobeReader to work on a 64-bit PCLOS-KDE system. By accident, I only
replied to the one person who answered me, but I can report that the
LightScribe problem is solved, and without the use of WINE.
If anyone wants to know, please ask and I will post that solution.
However. I don't believe that there is a simple solution to

Problems with yum/rpm and %pre scriptlet error 255
I am running xen (2.6.16-xen3_86.1_rhel4.1) on top of a stock CentOS-4.4
installation. I have not added any additional virtual machines however.
When trying to install (as root) acrobat reader 7 for Linux from the adobe
rpm (AdobeReader_enu.i386 7.0.8-1) I get the following errors:
error: %pre(AdobeReader_enu-7.0.8-1.i386) scriptlet failed, exit status 255

PDF Reader/Editor for CentOS 5.7 (32 bit)?
I had, in the past, a .pdf reader that also permitted me to fill in
some information, when I received a .pdf file.
I have KPDF installed, but that seems to only have Reader capability.
Trying to install xpdf, with yum, I get this dependency error from rpmforge:
1:xpdf-3.02-8.el5.rf.i386 from rpmforge has depsolving problems

Options for dpkg when using package type
Hi,
I''m trying to use "package" with "provider" "dpkg" to install packages in
Ubuntu that is not in a repository (or packages that I don''t want to
take from a repository). Typical examples of this are "AdobeReader"
(acroread) and "Opera". The problem with these packages is that they
don''t seem to have a 64 bit version

Hello!
I've been trying to use Foxit Reader with wine, however it does not
work.
I followed the instruction and the installation went fine, but whe I
try to open Foxit (wine ./Foxit\ Reader.exe) I get this error:

full-fledge PDF editor for Linux
Hi all,
Does anybody know of an editor that can do on Linux what Acrobat /
Acrobat Pro can do on Mac/Windows? I have tried to use the PDF Import
extension to the Open Office which appears barely functional - at
least it is so slow as to be almost impractical. I have also tried
pdfedit under Linux which seems to work fine but seems to have rather
limited functionality. For instance, the capability

Support for AdobeReader on Linux ended more than 4 years ago. It would
be better to use evince, atril or okular.

LyX 1.4.3-5 problem generating PDF documents
I just changed machines and, at first, could not get
LyX 1.4.3-4 to even load. I tried 1.5 which loaded
nicely but would not give me PDF output. Removed 1.5
tried using 1.4.3-5.exe. Result : On loading LyX :
lyx: Disabling socket

Removed and installed from LyXWin143Complete-2-9.exe.
Loads okay but no PDF generation. My

kghostview and xdg-open. Need to fix problem across whole system
In Centos 5.3, a bad problem has surfaced in user land. We want to use
either Evince or Adobe acroread as the pdf view, but the update of
kdegraphics has somehow screwed up these systems so that the odious,
horrible, awful pdf viewer kghostview is used. It is what you get
when you doubleclick on pdf files, it is what programs get when they
try to use xdg-open framework.
This happens even though

New Adobe Reader works on CentOS-4.x, speech synthesis reader & more.
Just and FYI.
In RPM form, works on 4.x and I will try on 5.x too. Speech is tacky,
but if I can get something but the Gnome Festival synthesizer, maybe it
will improve?

Crash of latticeExtra graph with Adobe Acro Pro/Reader/Windows/ during print only (display ok).
I created a report with Sweave today, that displayed perfectly on screen,
but crashed both Adobe Pro 9.3.1 and Adobe Reader 9.0 on Windows 7. Output
with Foxit Reader was flawless.
I was able to reproduce a "minimal" example, which is not really minimal but
the smallest I could get after 2 hours of wasting paper.

Wine apps crash
I am running Ubuntu 10.10 and Wine 1.3. For no reason that I know of a couple of apps that had been running fine wouldn't start. I restarted the wine server, rebooted and nothing worked. The apps are Foxit Reader and Foxit Phantom. Oddly, the Googleearth 6.0 was starting and running fine. I tried Winecfg, moving my .wine directory and creating a new one and nothing worked. I eventually
