Panic on boot with 7.3 kernels when decrypting hard drive
I was excited to update my system to CentOS 7.3/1611 yesterday when
the release announcement came through, but since then I've been
running into some serious kernel issues.
I've been successfully running 7.2 on a Thinkpad X301 for about 6
months now, with an encrypted disk that unlocks with a password at
boot time. I think that's LUKS on LVM? I didn't tinker with the

Virtual Machine converted from physical : Kernel Panic at boot .
Hi.
I used VMware Standalone converter 5.5 to convert a CentOS 5.3 machine from
a Physical server to a Virtaul Machine on ESXi 5.1 . Thus far with every
attempt to convert this machine I get a "Kernel panic"
mount: could not find filesystem '/dev/root'

Kernel Panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
Hello Xen users,
I tried to install Xen 3.1.0 on Scientific Linux (RHEL4), but this
mission failed.. Hope you can help me by finding the reason for my problem.
I downloaded the xen sources from
http://bits.xensource.com/oss-xen/release/3.1.0/src.tgz/xen-3.1.0-src.tgz
and compiled them by running "make" and "./install.sh". This seemed to
work.
After setting up grub like

error while decrypting metadata
One of my hosts just rebooted for the first time in ages, and now it
won't connect to any other nodes.
The log just contains continual "error while decrypting metadata" errors.

[PATCH branch 1.1] fix: use EVP_DecryptUpdate while decrypting
From: Andreas Rammhold <andreas at rammhold.de>
With OpenSSL versions 1.0.2r & 1.1.1b there were changes in regards to
how OpenSSL treats misuse of Encrypt/Decrypt EVP methods in the opposite
case. E.g. using the encrypt methods in a decrypt context. OpenSSL now
returns an error in these situations. [1]
Since tinc used the EVP_EncryptUpdate function in the cipher_decrypt
function the

How to enable pciback.hide in standard xen 3.0.2 kernels
Or how to delegate special PCI devices from domain-0 to dom(u)
Hi,
I tried to manage some pci devices for dom(u) domains, using the fedora core 5 (xen0/u) and 6-test2 (xen) i686 kernel-xen and kernel-xen-devel rpms:
In domain-0 lspci shows the pci device 00:04.01 which should be delegated to dom(u)
In dom(u) lspci does not show any information (this seems to be ok)
lsmod in dom(u) gives:

chainboot Windows on second drive
Hi,
I'm new to the list.
I've replaced grub by extlinux to multi boot my system. Now, I can't manage to
boot one of my systems.
I have 5 hard drives, 3 of them being part of a raid0 array, and one of them
being here for backup purposes (can be removed). So the total 'logical' drives
number is 2.
First drive:

Define ?would not work?. Post a photo of the error message somewhere if you can?t describe it better than that. You might have to turn off rhgb mode to get a useful error message.

Booting from a USB hard drive?
I'm trying to learn Asterisk (specifically Trixbox) and, as you
probably know, it runs on CentOS. I want to run it on my laptop and
thought that I could install it to an external USB hard drive, like
I've done with Fedora 12 and Linux Mint 8 (I like to keep my small
CentOS/Windows dual booting hard drive in the laptop's hard drive
slot). But it won't work. It kept giving me hard

Boot process slow with rhgb quiet on
If I boot with "rhgb quiet" off, my computer boots in 1 minute and 30
seconds.
If I boot with "rhgb quiet" on, my computer boots in 3m11s. That's a
long time to wait.
Significantly, when booting with "rhgb quiet", right at the moment X
takes over, there is a 1m36s pause where the screen is blank except for
the hourglass cursor turning around and around.

Centos 5.5, not booting latest kernel but older one instead
I've been going along not noticing things happening right under my nose.
so imagine my surprise when I discovered last night that my Centos 5 box
has installed multiple new kernels over the last few months, as updates
come out, and IT IS NOT BOOTING THE NEWST ONE.
grub.conf says to boot kernel 0, and 0 is the newest one. but the one it
actually boots is 6 or 8 down the list (clearly I've
